personally I prefer the black and white image in the paper to the color version on the site, but really, I’m just glad they chose a shot I like of us and that Rita wrote such a thoughtful article, she was really nice and a joy to talk to. When she came in yesterday to bring me a copy I gave her the full tour and a pair of Throx.
Thanks Rita!!!

Foot Traffic’s Lace Topped Rag Socks…
These are sort of a sleeper of a sock, one I secretly adore, then wonder why the rest of the world doesn’t love them as much as I do. They are topped with the kind of lace that isn’t so frilly it can’t go through a normal wash load with the rest of my clothes. Thick enough to be a slipper sock for around the house or add that extra bit of padding in looser shoes, they make a perfect boot sock too. They may be one of our thickest short socks (the New Zealand Bedsocks are perhaps a tad thicker), but I still enjoy wearing them even on warmer days because they breathe well, I even managed to stretch the toe out a little to wear comfortably with my flip flops yesterday.
I only have a pair of the pretty rose tinged oatmeal, but am sure to have one of each before long. Because, you know, you can never have too many socks!

A few days ago I got a call from our sister sock company, Sock It To Me, inviting me to see their new arrivals and be among the first to get some. I was honored, got myself over there as soon as I could and picked out nearly two dozen styles, all of which are available in our store. Thursdays are when we usually take pictures of new styles and this week I picked the five I liked best, with a little help from my friends here at work, to shoot first for the site.

The flaming hearts are my personal fav…

Dara liked the anchors best…

Brigid loved the teal on the birds on a wire and Kori hated the robot pirate (I’ll be shooting those next week). But there are more, lots more…
We will be adding Roller Derby styles, pink elephants, crew socks for women, silly socks for men (robot pirates are no more ridiculous than smiling bacon and eggs) yes, there will even be bacon and egg socks and more. There are even a few new argyles and we’ll be taking lots more pictures in the days to come.
So watch the latest items page for even more goodies next week.

You didn’t know we’re sisters did you? Well, we kind if are, Carrie started her business just a few blocks from where I dreamed this one up. We shared an employee for several months before she went full time with us and recently she hired the sister of another of our employees. We’ve exchanged ideas and have even talked about sharing a warehouse in the past. People get us mixed up sometimes too, two female run sock businesses in a little town like Portland, what are the odds? Thankfully we all get along great, and together, we sell a lot of fun socks!

I love how the new banner turned out, shortly after I shot this some nice men came along and set it up high above our booth in the front so it is now more visible. We brought more rainbow socks than anything else this year having sold almost nothing but rainbows in past years, and sure enough, we sold out of several styles, good thing I can restock on my way across the river Sunday morning.
One of the things I enjoyed the most were all the proud dogs!
This will be our third year sponsoring Pride, this time we get a booth right by the river (w1). I’ll bring plenty of sunscreen and am hoping the chances for rain diminish by Saturday because I want to show off my socks and keep my toes dry at the same time. I’ll be wearing my fit flops because last year I heard over & over: “Oh, I like socks, but in summer I prefer to wear flip flops…” and if you have ever tried to wear your thongs, slip slops or what-have-you in the rain you know what I’m saying.

When we looked at the list of what did and did not sell last year we found that rainbow socks really did outsell everything else we took, by far, so it will be mostly rainbows that we bring, along with some other fun stuff like fuzzy toe socks, 3D sharks & Pretty Kitties, sock garters and petticoats (we just got some super cute new ones that are not yet on the site, some even have polka dots!!!).
So if you’re down by Waterfront Park this weekend stop by and show us your socks!

As professional sock dreamers we get a lot of special requests and a fair amount of people write us with brilliant sock ideas they’d like to see come true.
Many months ago I got such a letter from a nice young man named Ken who showed me what I thought was a pretty smart idea with a back to school theme. I asked him to let me know when they were in production and ready to order…

As has often been the case with me in the past I was a bit overwhelmed with my many sock-related doings when he wrote me a few months later and wasn’t sure I wanted to take on three adorable little designs so I said not now, but probably later (famous last words I know)…

But this was too good of an idea to go away and while Ken has been creating ever more designs & spreading the word about his cool socks he was noticed by our very own Mr Natosi (AKA Bsti) who showed everyone at work in my absence (I was running errands with and for my folks that day), they were all in awe of these brilliant little socks and when I walked in that afternoon one person after another was quick to ask if I’d seen the new socks, did Bsti show you the socks he found? what do you think of those crazy socks? Often one to be skeptical of so much enthusiasm I approached a monitor, show me these socks I said… Guts, cigarettes, red meat and wood! this has gotten good. I recognized some of the socks and realized this was meant to be, a great and growing line of unique US made socks. I put Dara on the task of contacting Ashi Dashi and working out the details and in short time we had our samples.
Every bit as impressed with the real thing as we were with the pictures we carefully chose our first batch and got our pictures done. They were, without a doubt, some of the most fun shots we’ve done lately.
So we hope you all enjoy these as much as we do,
they fit great and you can feel good about wearing them.
But be warned, like so many things here at Sock Dreams…

these socks may be addictive.

In the nearly seven years that I’ve been doing this journal thing I have gone from doing it painstakingly via my old web building software & html in a special section right on the site when I started up the Socks of the Day in July 2002…

then I gave bloggar and livejournal a try, discovered that Wordpress worked really nicely with the site and have used Flickr for uploading large versions of some of my favorite images. But in the past year Twitter & Facebook have been all the rage and, tired of learning new stuff all the time, I did not dive right into them. Well, actually I asked Olivia to write Twitter into the journal last year and she said it could be implemented in the new design so I didn’t bother to learn it yet, then everyone started talking about it and I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to do it, I mean, I’m not so much of a follower and if everyone is doing it, maybe I shouldn’t be.
Plus people kept asking if we were on Facebook, so I had Amanda set us up with a little fan page and forgot about it. Well, I’ve been finding myself on there more and more lately keeping up with old friends & family so I decided it was time I start actually updating our page with new images. We’ve all been talking about Twitter a ton at SD HQ this past week or so. Several of my girls already do it and Mr Natosi just started.
…I guess I’ll be trying that next. At least it will keep me short-winded ~;)
So, tell me, how many of you do what and what do you think?

This is India, she is leaving us for Las Vegas later this week to be with the one she loves. The Simply adjustable Sock Garters shown on her in the previous post were her idea, we had a damaged pair of the traditionals in our unsellable returns box and her socks weren’t staying up. She not only solved her own problem but she solved one we’ve had for ages because our ability to get the buttoned garters has been sporadic at best and these are even simpler, no buttoning required (and you could still adorn them if you wanted). She will be greatly missed by all of us for her hard work, creativity and great taste in leg wear. The boots? I found those at a little boutique in Seattle called Diva Dollz, the brand is Miz Mooz, don’t know the model name though.

This is Flaura, shop helper, ad designer and maker of cute stockings that we only sell in our store. She had another idea for how to wear the new garters with the new Super Ruched socks and I thought it was super cute too.
<img src="http://www.sockdreams.com/weblog/wp-content/uploaded_images/2009/05/100-blue-dara-2-300.jpg" alt="100-blue-dara-2-300" title="100-blue-dara-2-300" width="300" height="450" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-2074"
Our Operations Manager Dara shows us here how the feet are thicker than the rest of the sock. We had actually chosen a thicker version of these to be made, or so we thought. When the slightly sheerer version arrived we decided it was probably a good thing because these are really light weight, perfect for warmer weather. Not so sheer that they snag easily, but as you can see in the first images, they will not hide tattoos (yes, that is a pomegranate, hence the name of the red ones). They could totally be worn over tights in cooler weather, over fishnets could look really neat too. And since these were made just for us you won’t be finding them anywhere else anytime soon.
Okay, I’m sure I am forgetting several things I wanted to say about these
so ask away and we’ll do our best to provide answers…
