We now have the first three of what we hope
will be many varieties of knee high tabi socks…
Stripes, Checkered Grids & my favorite, Sakura Blossoms…

we found the grids to be snug and as you can see they get easily distorted so these may not be staying around for long, but I decided to offer them up anyway because they were one of the first ones several dreamers grabbed…

The stripes & sakuras had no such issues and fit us fine up to at least 17 inches around at their tops. They stay up really well, but I did find that by the end of the day while lying in bed I needed to push the tops down around my ankles to relieve the squeeze …doesn’t bother me while I’m up and active at all
nor did it bother any of the rest of us during normal wear.
Of course, switching into a nice pair of bed socks is a great idea anyway!

Lindsay started working for us just about a year ago…
most of her duties were in the warehouse, restocking and getting orders ready to go
she made us smile & laugh all the time with her sharp humor & inappropriate jokes. We all feel blessed to have had the time with her we did and are deeply saddened by her sudden passing. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to her family & friends.

…just yesterday Mr Natosi & I argued over whether or not it is cool to send candy to strangers. I’m not saying I don’t think it’s a great idea and I know some do it and it is received with extreme glee, it just isn’t a liability I want to take on, so instead I am offering you, our beloved Sock lovers, friends, family & fans a chance to get these
~ ::((( tasty handmade hand warmers )))::~
of which we have only a small and limited supply of…

Because each and every one of them is unique we will do the
“you buy them we’ll pick them” game (a favorite of mine!)
you get to choose between arcrylic…

or cotton (not very many cotton I’m afraid)…

you can tell us your preferred colors, give us about three options so we can pick from what we have. Some have bits, bobbles or fringe… regardless of what we send you we think you’ll love them. These Chimera Warmers were made right here in Portland by a friend of the one & only Tie Dye Eric, the woman’s daughter is a customer & fan and though she brought these to us before summer we’ve been drooling near them for months awaiting the perfect time to offer them up to our many friends with chilly hands!

Our party was a great success, crowded and totally fun!
I have a ton of pictures to edit and a full day ahead with no time to do it so I’ll add and/or link more images in the next day or so. We had a stilt walker, a banjo player who improvised sock songs quite impressively (wish we’d been recording that!) and the winning costume was an amazing Marie Antoinette
(sorry, I didn’t get a shot of her socks)…

If you missed this one plan ahead for next year…
it will be our 10 year sock anniversary!!!

I’m wearing my comfy old pair of Sweet Pea Dreamy knees
(now in slightly different shades of purple) as I prepare to take off for a few days with my mom to see our family down in sunny southern California.
We should *finally* really (no REALLY) be ready to let you all start testing the new site when I return at the end of the week. Dan & Olivia have worked out the last of the issues, bugs and niggly bits that we were able to find on our own. New sites always take longer than you think, much longer…

In my absence the rest of our amazing sock dreamers will be busily working as always to keep the socks coming in (we get 5-20 boxes of restock nearly every day at this time of year) and going out (long gone are the days of us hauling buckets to the post office ourselves, USPS sends us a truck three times a day to start our socks off to their happy new homes) not to mention replying to the many emails and phone calls.

Five years ago I went down for my gramma’s 75th birthday…
Lola was just a pup & we had never had or needed an employee. The thought of leaving Bsti home alone with all the orders and a needy baby made us reconsider and we quickly hired our first helper, the talented Ms Xilia Faye. These days Xilia works for herself as a freelance photographer and we have nearly 20 helpers (!!!) working in two locations (our warehouse on Powell & our shop in Sellwood).
As I write this I realize just how much we’ve grown these past five years…
quite a bit and yet, not too much. It still feels like I’m working with friends & family, we still have fun. Even on the busiest days you might see us dancing and laughing as we gather the sock orders and restock our shelves.
Now to finish packing…
With love & happy toes,
niq ~xoxo
When I don’t want my toes bare my favorites continue to be Toe Toes…
These are the Toe Toe Sports Golfers, also labeled for tennis, they are awesome for all your toe sock needs, they look really nice, like a crochet sock. They are actually more of a technical sock, designed for comfort and keeping your feet cool & dry. They only come in natural, and although I have yet to dye a pair I’m pretty sure they would take dye well due to their high cotton content. I think I’ll have to try that soon, I wish we could get a longer version too (thigh high? swoon!). Yes, these are a little more expensive at $24, a good investment for your feet is a better way to think of them.
My pair above has been worn and washed over and over for over a year and still look & feel great! I wore them yesterday when the weather was a little less than ideal for bare toes. Another great option are the Toe Toe Walkers for only $16, not as ideal for warmer days but damn comfy! Both come in three sizes for a perfect fit.
Ah, happy toes!!!

I wore black & grey walkers today…

So comfy & cozy!
We are a little low on stock, but are awaiting an order that is due in soon…

<img src="http://www.sockdreams.com/weblog/wp-content/uploaded_images/2009/08/toesox-8-26.jpg" alt="toesox 8-26" title="toesox 8-26" width="300" height="450" size-full wp-image-2413" />
I’ve been loving the new toeless socks and have worn little else since they arrived.
I like all four variations, each is unique and allow your toes to wiggle & breathe
…but the Toesox are my favorite for ultimate comfort and wearability.

Each toe is separate, yet free, in this unique half-toe style. The expanse of grippy dots on the bottoms provide excellent traction and stability in sandals & flip flops and especially if you’re using these for yoga, pilates or general barefoot-like goodness.
In my opinion nothing feels quite as good as really nice toe socks, yeah being barefoot can feel pretty good, but I love how my safe and comfy my toes feel when they are each being gently hugged by soft cotton, now add having their top halves free and it is the best of both worlds. (we’ll be adding a full toed version soon too).

The Color Pop stirrup leg warmer is my second fav of the bunch…

I found that these made my feet feel really nice, even more freedom while keeping my arches & ankles warm. What really surprised me here was that they actually did warm me, my toes & heels did not feel cold like they had before I put these on and when it does get too cold to have my toes & heels bared I can wear these over other socks or tights for lots of layering possibilities.

The Crochet lovers are my next favorite for their classic style, I will forever love socks that look crocheted and these are completely open at your toes

…your toes can wiggle with complete freedom.

There are two toeless tabi styles…
the Pop Stars have a nice sprinkling of sparkley stars…

The zip zags are similar to our beloved chevron designs…

and have your toes free but separated from your big toe, which is also free. This design is nice because it keeps the sock in place so only your toes show, in fact, my pinky toes do not show in these because they are diminutive and tend to hide.
The thong between my toes was comfortable all day…
but tended to bug me at night after I went to bed.

We have at least a few other toeless and stirrup-ed items that can be found in the quick search under toeless (soon to be its own section). Besides being a perfect way to show off your toes, these fit a really wide range of feet from our smallest 6s to our widest 10.5. Just try not to wear them with regular shoes, they are created to allow toe freedom and in regular shoes there is nothing to protect your toes from friction which could result in blisters.

It’s true, I’ve been tinkering around with Twitter lately….
I was reluctant at first, and remain lukewarm some days.
But when it was down this morning and I could not find out what Amanda & Neil were up to while I had my morning coffee I laughed a little inside at how I didn’t realize I’ve come to rely on this odd little place I visit. The world as we’ve come to know it had ceased to exist, if just for a few hours. I had been thinking about doing this journal entry for days actually, I was only waiting til I had my footing on Twitter as @SockDreams …now we have almost 300 followers, no where near as many as Facebook, but steadily climbing and ever so much easier to update than the journal. I’m starting to get used to the format and the 140 character limit…

So it may seem as if I am neglecting the journal, and truth be told I s’pose I am, but I will continue to post the truly noteworthy stuff here, like when we begin beta testing the new site (just a few more kinks for Dan & Olivia to sort out) and when we get closer to opening the new store and even an actual review now & again
(customer reviews coming next on the new site btw!!!…)
In the meantime there is much to do to get ready for fall, the busy holiday season, our new site and our Grand Opening at our Sellwood shop September 15.
…for bits and pieces of what we are up to be sure to check out Facebook & Twitter!
With love & warm toes, always…
Niqkita
xoxo
