Everybody’s doing it…

In the nearly seven years that I’ve been doing this journal thing I have gone from doing it painstakingly via my old web building software & html in a special section right on the site when I started up the Socks of the Day in July 2002…
then I gave bloggar and livejournal a try, discovered that Wordpress worked really nicely with the site and have used Flickr for uploading large versions of some of my favorite images. But in the past year Twitter & Facebook have been all the rage and, tired of learning new stuff all the time, I did not dive right into them. Well, actually I asked Olivia to write Twitter into the journal last year and she said it could be implemented in the new design so I didn’t bother to learn it yet, then everyone started talking about it and I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to do it, I mean, I’m not so much of a follower and if everyone is doing it, maybe I shouldn’t be.
Plus people kept asking if we were on Facebook, so I had Amanda set us up with a little fan page and forgot about it. Well, I’ve been finding myself on there more and more lately keeping up with old friends & family so I decided it was time I start actually updating our page with new images. We’ve all been talking about Twitter a ton at SD HQ this past week or so. Several of my girls already do it and Mr Natosi just started.
…I guess I’ll be trying that next. At least it will keep me short-winded ~;)
So, tell me, how many of you do what and what do you think?

Facebook, yes. As when I was on Myspace, it has essentially become another form of email for me, mostly. It’s mildly fun reading people’s statuses, and all of that that you can keep track of–despite how frighteningly *stalker* it sometimes feels…LOL. And again, as with Myspace, I find myself wondering if I should delete myself from there. But, for now at least, it will stay.
I don’t do Twitter. When I found out what it was, I don’t know, it just struck me as utterly uninteresting.
But, I would say that I think it would be a good move on your part to at least do the Facebook thing, because if anything, more potential to spread the sock love throughout the world! =D

I have a MySpace page, but I no longer use it. I should probably delete it.
Facebook, yes.
Twitter, yes. Twitter has changed the way I interact with people. I can keep in touch with all my New Media/Podcasting friends who live all over the world.
I use SwitchABit to cross post my Twitter status to Facebook. It’s very convenient.
Sock Dreams should have a presence in every popular medium if you want people to know you exist, regardless of if you actually spend time there. If your primary presence is on Facebook, then your other pages, be they MySpace, Tumblr, or whatever, can point to your Facebook page.

I use twitter, I find it amusing for some reason. I’m terrified of Facebook and Myspace…they just seem too involved for me.

“I’m not so much of a follower and if everyone is doing it, maybe I shouldn’t be”, is the very reason I shop with Sock Dreams and don’t do Myspace/ Facebook/ Twitter! It makes good sense to take advantage of the free exposure though, so I’m all for you guys having a presence on these sites.

Awesome feedback so far, thanks!
SB, your comment made me smile so much ~=D

Facebook is also trying to lure me in, as all my friends are leaving me out of the loop now, communicating almost solely through it!
Conversely, I LOVE twitter! I’ve been on it for a few months now, and it’s just the awesomest. ;) You’re totally able to control the amount of information that you want and from whom and when and how. Fantastic. I can keep up with some fellow twitterers instantly via text message, and then check in on others when I log in and check out my page. <3 !
of course, you can find me there. Go for it!

I too thought that Twitter would just be annoying. It Is Not. I’m finding more and more things you can do with it, and it’s very intuitive. I do think Sock Dreams needs this communication tool.

I love Livejournal and Facebook and Twitter, so I’m all for Sock Dreams being active on all these. :D Free advertising, guys, not to mention pretty fun!

I would love to receive tweets informing me when more items hit the shelves and/or sale bin.

I’m a new Facebook fan–just signed up not too long ago and I have to say I love it.
If I can go off topic for just a minute–I’m in need of sock suggestions. I need a sock for tap dancing. My shoes fit pretty snug, so it can’t be too bulky, and it needs to fit fairly snug too so my food doesn’t slide around in the sock causing rubbing. It it could be supportive–that would be a bonus. Are there any dancers out there that can help?
Thanks so much!

I’m sure a knowledgeable Dreamer will answer your question, but I must insist that one should never let their food slide around in their socks. In fact, I wouldn’t recommend putting food in your socks at all! :)

Well, you know…a trend has to start somewhere :)

hey there Jennifer. well, i’m not a dancer but my gut says stay away from socks with a high synthetic content. Higher natural content would keep your feet cooler and drier and cause less slipping or friction in your shoes. There is a “cotton” category in the drop down menu that will give you lots of options; short, long, toe socks…
Any Tap dancers out there? :)

Hey Jennifer! Some snug, sleek sock options are any of the Polonova trouser socks. They’ll be snug, durable, and thin enough to dance in. Plus they’re soooo pretty! Some of our B.ella trouser socks like the Lena would be another good bet. If you want a shorter sock, I wonder if the Silk Ballerina Toes would work? The toes keep the sock securely on your foot, and silk is a fantastic fabric for keeping feet cool. The Bobby Socklings are a bit thicker, but they fit snugly on most feet, and they’re a cute, simple sock.
I’ll be interested to hear if any dancers have tried our socks and what styles they prefer, but I think these styles would be great ones to try! Happy tapping! <3

I’d try the Bobby Socklings. Thin, stretchy cotton, and should be great for dancing. I’m no tap dancer, but I tend to wear my old Hot Socks roll-top crews when I go out swing dancing since they’re so soft and comfy; I don’t think we have them anymore, but the Bobby Socklings seem pretty close.

Jennifer, I would say that it depends on your dance shoes and your preferences, but the Toe Toes are thin, comfy, and feel like they aren’t even there once you get them on. I tried them for rollerskating and didn’t like the small amount of width that they added to my already-wide toe spread, so that’s something to consider. I honestly hate all-cotton socks, as they absorb sweat, but then what? I end up with sweaty socks on my feet all day. I go for synthetic blends (all the K Bell are nice) and wool blends (Hot Sox ftw) to wick the sweat away and then allow it to disperse better. Bamboo, too, is awesome. :) Best of luck!

And yes, I wear the wool blends in the summer in the deep and dirty south, so I can assure you that they work. :)

Thanks for all of the wonderful suggestions. I think I’m going to try a variety and see what works best–and it will give me an excuse to sock shop!
