Snow Update
We have so much snow that the only thing we are doing is going in, just a few of us, to get express orders out the door. We’re not even sure when or if we’ll have a postal pick up, but we’ll do what we can. The store won’t be open, at this rate we might not be able to open til Wednesday or Friday.
I know how crazy this sounds to those of you who live, or have lived, where it snows every year (Bsti & I have lived in such places ourselves), but the city of Portland simply is not set up to deal with this much snow since it is rare for snow to stick for more than a day and right now cars outside my house are nearly buried in it. Thankfully we have awesome public transportation here so we’ll be hiking out to catch a bus shortly, more later…

i think everyone everywhere is getting hit with smoe really weird stuff so i am knowing we all understand.
i know i am wishing i could stay home thru all of these storms – ice wind snow freezing temps etc – but the job takes me into it most in these times.

Go Trimet! Be safe, guys! We have drifts by our door that are about two feet high, and our cars are totally buried. Right now we’re only going out to let the dog go potty, although I think I’ll try to take some snow photographs today.
To the last minute Christmas shoppers: Don’t worry! January 6th, King’s Day, is the day that Jesus got his presents. That gives you a whole two more weeks to get those gifts out! ;) And I figure if I get my Jewish friends their gifts by the 8th day of Hannukah I’m still on time.
And meanwhile, it continues to snow….

Stay home warm and safe. The socks will all be there when all is clear and they won’t spoil. Enjoy your sanity for a couple days. You’ll miss that when it’s gone. (sounds like a line from a piece by Baz Luhrman.) Enjoy the company of your best friend. Enjoy the company of your dog and your cat. Be at peace and know that there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. Everything will be ok in the end. If it’s not ok, it’s not the end.

Last week I checked the weather for SC and it was supposed to be 70’s all week but this morning my aunt said they had a severe temperature drop to 25 or so. Apparently it’s happening all over the country…
In any event, make sure you guys stay warm and safe.

Oh good, I was hoping SOMEBODY was going in these last couple days. I was really worried a roof leak would develop or something and everything would be horribly wrong and we wouldn’t know about it.
I’m prepared to hack my way over there tomorrow if my assistance is needed. I live close enough that it wouldn’t be too bad for me, although it might take me a good long while.

Hi Niq,
I know you are extremely busy and probably pretty stressed out at the moment but…if you get a spare moment…can you post photos of the snow, maybe of Lola playing in it? Living in NC we don’t see much snow. We always hope for some (but not a lot) because people don’t know how to act when we get snow on the ground around here. Be careful out there. ah! i saw snow for the first time here in vegas!!! it was around 12 inches but they closed down EVERYTHING because well…people in vegas don’t know how to drive in snow, nor is the city equipped to plow the streets or whatever it is they do when it snows :D
but on the plus side i got to play in the snow and test out my new harajuku armwarmers :D

We bundled up and headed in, totally lucked out and got a ride in a passing taxi, the buses were all stuck along the route! 6 of us made it in, 3 of them had been told they didn’t have to but braved it anyway.
We got all the express & priority orders out! there was just the one postal pick up, they called to confirm, but did not say just when we could expect them. So we figured it could be 5 minutes, it could 5 hours. All the first class and international orders we didn’t get will go out tomorrow, we got most of them pulled & weighed before we all left at 3.
We walked half way home when an operating bus that wasn’t stuffed full of people came along at last and stopped to pick us up, so we climbed on feeling very accomplished and ready to get started on that little winter vacation in our new home we’ve been dreaming about.

Hey Bob Cloud, thanks for the words of advice, but golly if people don’t order last minute Xmas gifts! We have no choice but to brave this weather so that others’ toes can be warm, and in time for the big holiday. Thankfully, this is the last day that anything CAN make it in time, so time is no longer against us. Not that weren’t willing, this is our busiest time of the year, after all! Too bad the 6 of us had to eat all of the holiday treats by our lonesome! ;)

You earned those snacks! If I had a particle transport I would have beamed right over the cookies I made specifically to bring in to work.
I’m so glad that you all were so lucky with transportation! And though I am insanely impressed overall, I did always know that you were superheroes.

I’m so glad everyone’s weathering the snow on the west coast so well. I live in downeast Maine along the coast, not too far from the Canadian border. All over Maine, people are getting between a foot and two feet of snow. I think my town got about 18 inches, but I’m really counting myself lucky. There’s one little town in Maine, Eustis, that got 41 inches of snow!

Aw, man! I was all set to order something last minute on Monday morning, then saw the snow post and decided not to. But it looks like you guys probably would have gotten it out the door in time.
‘Tis my own fault for waiting until the last minute. No matter. I can always have it shipped to my friend’s house later on.
I love, love, love the Lola pics, especially with her gator all babushka-like around her little face. :-) Who is her spotty friend? Is that the same dog I’ve seen hanging out with her in pictures from a long time ago? Jake, isn’t it?

…Yup, my ever annoying, beloved old Catahoula Leopard Dog, Jake, is now 14 years and 7 months old. Like all old guys, he has his good times and his bad ones, but as you can see, he’s been having a great time in the snow with Lola.
