I have usually worn mine over my foot traffic combed cotton tights and it seems to not snag those. The x-long mens garters were pretty comfy but i didn't wear them for a super long time so not sure how they'd be for a whole day. I had to tighten them fairly snug to stay up on my thigh but i have some good fluff-and-stuff so it wasn't too uncomfortable. :) The plus side to those is that i can make them small enough to use down right below my knee as well as high up on my thigh.
