Fishnet…

Fishnet always seemed like a perennial favorite, one that never went out of style.
And while it surely must be a true classic that never really goes out of style, especially in warmer weather, it certainly does seem to me that demand has dropped the last couple of years. That said, I still love fishnet so when I noticed new color options for the basic fishnet gloves from Leg Avenue I went ahead and ordered some. And since I am in the process of updating older images on the site for the launch of the new site (um, right, still working on that, but it really is coming along nicely) I went ahead and reshot all of the colors of fishnet gloves with the help of my fine fellow sock lovers, some of the store decor and my trusty old baton as props…

(yes, some of us really can twirl it to the surprise of our coworkers)
The only thing I really don’t like about these gloves is all the fishnet that ends up at the tips of the fingers where the seams meet, thankfully it is easy to cut the tips off for quick and easy fingerless fishnet gloves.

You can do it at the tips or anywhere down further on the fingers and it will last ages without fraying. I did this to my black pair years ago and they are still fine after many wearings. So tell me, do you like fishnet any more or less than you ever have?

Strange you brought this topic up…I was having this VERY discussion with myself just the other day on the long ride home from work…I was commenting to myself that I had not been wearing any of my fishnet styles lately. Was it because my tastes had changed or just all the new incredible leg/foot wear that had come out in the last couple years? We (myself and i) voted for the latter as whenever I think of fishnets I get the same pulse-quickening feeling inside. and especially my two favs - the French lace and a style I think might be from levante (i have two pairs - burgundy & black - and they have flower detail kinda like a garter belt detail). Putting these on can instantly change an ordinary outfit into instant sexpot (the outfit not me ;) and maybe thats what i love about nets so much - the instant vavavavoom factor. The thrill is NOT gone.
And viewing these pics gave me that same old zing in my belly feeling.
I have yet to try the fishnet gloves here at SD but those purple are glorious. note to self - add to wish list.
So thank you Mz Sock Goddess for throwing this out there. and i am digging out my old favs! and bringing sexy back!

I still LOVE fishnet! :) Personally, I don’t like holes in my fishnet, and most tear after only a few wearings. Right now, my budget doesn’t allow for me to purchase as much fishnet as I used to. I know that you have some fabulous top quality pairs, but alas, my budget is not allowing for anything too expensive right now either.

So, for me, it has to do with money, and not lack of interest. :) I still LOOOVES me my fishnet. lol.

Yup–I’m still loving the fishnet too! The gloves are on my wish list. It is so great for layering without adding too much bulk or warmth–especially here in Texas where the winters (if you can call them that) don’t allow for several heavy layers. I think fishnets add a funky fashion twist to a casual outfit or really put that dressy outfit over the top.

So definitely keep the fishnets coming–I, for one, will always be reeled in lol!!! I know that was horrible but I just couldn’t resist. I’m sure I’ll hear the groans from all over the nation!!

    OK I’ll shut up now!

I love fishnets. I find them to be so flattering and versatile, but sometimes if one’s ankles are not to be covered with boots or other sock layers, some fishnets can fail to follow this particular curve on my leg. Hrm, I’m not sure this is clear. The ‘nets sometimes stretch strangely from calf to heel and do not adequately show off a shapely ankle. But, not all pairs have this difficulty, so sometimes I’m reluctant to buy new ones and take this risk.

I still love fishnets, as well, I’m just frustrated with how easily they tear. I did have a pair for well over a year that is just now tearing, though, so I am very lucky with that!

One problem that I have is that I often wear boots with zippers, and the zippers like to get caught on the stockings and rip holes in it.

I’m not a fan of ankle socks, knee socks, or transparent gloves in general, so I don’t like fishnets in those styles, but give me some full tights or taller stockings, and I’m there. I really need to buy some fencenets (Iprefer the bigger holes!) and some fancy fishnets.

  6. Rebeckah Says:

well, I’m going to buck the trend and fess up that I lost interest in fishnet. I didn’t really know why until Musii’s comment which reminded me of the very first and last time I wore my Antoinettes and they got caught on my brother’s wrought iron furniture. (I hate iron furniture it’s caused me more pain from stubbed toes-grrr)…. and my nets were ruined! :( I was sooo bummed - they had only lasted like 3 hours. I LOVED those Antoinettes! aw.

Also I think with all the A/C my legs get so cold that I just reach for long socks automatically. I’m also trying to blend in more and nets make me feel too noticed. I also think knees are ugly, and socks hide knees better. teehee. I also got up to about 300 pair of socks, so some things just naturally fell out of favor. I keep hoping to sell my big box ‘o’ nets someday, some are brand new even.

Also, also, also, also.. geez. it’s worse than that post I made where I said “crotch” over and over. :))) …. I do however wear these net gloves because I need to guard my hands from the sun and these are the lightest, most summer-ish gloves I have found. I like the Ladylike idea of satin gloves, but when I wear them I drop everything constantly! lol. I wear the satin mitts over the net gloves. Good for driving!

I still love fishnet! I don’t wear it as often as I used to, though, perhaps as I don’t go out much anymore. In the weather we’re having, though, fishnet is the best!

Incidentally, my stepmom and stepniece stopped by the store this past week and picked me up a lovely pair of the new K. Bell Soft & Dreamy socks…and they are soooo soft and dreamy! :D

  9. niqkita Says:

oooh, too bad I missed them ~:(
…nice choice they made! I do like those soft & dreamies, they are in my top 5 - 10 right now of fav’s. Oooh, I should totally do a listing of my tops 5-10, maybe when we have the super-cool review system in the future we could do that, everyone could list their top 5-10 styles, then we could get an overall rating. Mine changes from time to time, of course, my O Dreamies are always in my top 5! I’d have to say fishnet is far lower on my list. Why? I’m almost always cold, I do not like to see my knees, let alone my toes, I hate shaving, freckles & veins, nuff said! But they are uber-sexy so for the right occasion I’m happy to wear them. The Betsey Johnson Grrrs are my current fav, I have some images of the new colors I should be editing this very minute!

  10. Rebeckah Says:

ooo, I’m glad I’m not the only one who has a thing about how knees look. ;) In my top 5’s are always the o chevrons and now the Naomis are a BIG fave! Also the MP superwashed wool. Those are so awesome… and I will always treasure the original M40’s. I sooooo wished I would have bought more colours of those. oh gosh! and LongSocks! How could I forget those? omarled 40’s too! and and and…. :)

  11. Drew Says:
