Soft Opening

April 1, 2008, the long awaited storefront opens at noon
…and Sock Dreams will never be the same.

Nope, we’ll be better!
better than before, better than ever, better than I ever dreamed.

Although this is only our soft opening we’ve been spreading the word and have had a ton of positive, if not down-right giddy, feedback. When Meg from the Willamette Week stopped by to pick up a check for our ad she said she’d never heard so much excitement around their offices for a store opening! That is both hugely flattering and just a wee bit scary. Check this Wednesday’s WW if you’re local, Liz did a stunning job of adjusting our logo for the black & white format and turning it into an ad.

As you can see everyone here has done an awesome job of getting us ready, even those of us who have continued to focus mainly on the regular doings here. I have to say it, I have never been so proud as I have been these past days seeing it all come together and everyone working as a team to not only make this store look beautiful, but to do the normal every day tasks, and everything in between, every single person here has contributed hugely to this special dream we all share.

Now, this is just day one, every day we will be adding, improving, rethinking, restocking, and we’ll announce our Grand Opening soon…

so come back often because you can never have too many socks!

ooohh…I’m actually going to be in Portland to visit Reed college in a few weeks so hopefully I’ll be able to stop by and shop in person!!
Can anyone tell me how close you guys are to campus?

I wish I didn’t live so far from Portland! Everything looks beautiful, have a wonderful opening day!
March 31st, 2008 at 10:16 pm
I so wish I at least lived in the same country so I can come to visit your shop :)
Looks wonderful.
March 31st, 2008 at 10:25 pm
the legs sticking out of the wall is a little surreal lol
“so come back often because you can never have too many socks!”
my mom disagrees lol ^ ;)
Hope all goes well on your first store day! :)

The store looks amazing! Congratulations!!!
April 1st, 2008 at 6:13 am
Thanks ~=D
We’re just a few miles from Reed college, we’re at SE Powell & 7th. We’ll have a full map and directions up soon. Finding us is easy, getting into our parking lot is a little trickier because you cannot get to us from Powell due to the heavy traffic in that spot, you must use SE Woodward.

So many congratulations to you I cannot count them. I know this will be super successful for you and I wish I could be there to shop, shop, shop.
The store looks amazing–my favorite are the legs sticking out of the cubby hole with the petticoat!
Way to go!!!

April 1st, 2008 at 11:16 am
:O
The store looks amazing! I wish I lived on the West Coast. All the fun stuff is happening there!
April 1st, 2008 at 11:24 am
Gratz!
I remember, when I visited Portland a couple years back, wishing you had a storefront.
Next time I visit, I’m coming in!
April 1st, 2008 at 12:03 pm
Congratulations!!! Many happy sales to you all!!!!
April 1st, 2008 at 2:18 pm
the store is even more gorgeous in real life, the photos do not do it justice. everything is so nicely arranged and situated… good thing i already knew what i wanted or i would have spent a lot more money.
April 1st, 2008 at 4:33 pm
wish there was a you-tube of the day!
love to you all at SD!
April 1st, 2008 at 5:41 pm
If i weren’t busy in shipping, I could have You-Tubed it, but I still could! Maybe I’ll make a little virtual tour one day when Lola isn’t there, because she hates when I am out of sight and isn’t allowed in the store.
I have to say that I’m very impressed with what the Dreamers did with the space. And I do think the pictures do justice, giving just enough of a taste to compel potential customers to come see for themselves.
April 1st, 2008 at 5:41 pm
=X my dilemma is, pay +300 for a round trip ticket to get to the store or spend +400 at the online shop….
April 1st, 2008 at 6:07 pm
OMG. I LOVE LOVE the legs sticking out.
April 1st, 2008 at 7:33 pm
You’re right Bsti, although its obvious downright titillation and flagrant bragging! I feel like a starving child, sockless in the freezing snow, pressed up to a restaurant window where everyone is tucking into the most delicious warmest meal in the universe.
Those photos are amazing…
Oh my gosh Im just so excited!! I just can’t wait for my next trip to Portland.
April 1st, 2008 at 8:36 pm
oh… sorry! don’t think i’m dissing the photos, ’cause i’m not! i’m just saying everything is so lush and pretty and chic in real life.
and… just because i’m a perv, i checked to make sure the mannequins were decent under their petticoats. it was almost a shock to see undies on them. frilly undies.
>:)
April 1st, 2008 at 9:13 pm
!!!!!!!!!!! i’ll be sure to stop by soon. can’t wait !!!!!!!!!!!!
April 1st, 2008 at 10:50 pm
nooo no no! i just spent spring break in portland but i didnt know the store was opening and today was my last day there so i missed it :( i dearly love socks and every form of shopping, but store shopping beats online shopping anytime so im happy :) or at least i will be on my next trip to portland..
April 1st, 2008 at 11:04 pm
Weee!!! I’m so proud! I want to come by and visit! :D *squish*
April 2nd, 2008 at 5:02 am
that is a beautiful store — i thought of you yesterday and wondered if you’d opened — congratulations!
April 2nd, 2008 at 6:10 am
Many many thanks!!!
It was a really fun day and went quite well. It was nice to see all the people enjoying socks in person, even if someone actually had the nerve to ask where the “normal socks” were ~;)
…and don’t worry hkhm, I knew how you meant it and did not feel dissed, someone’s just looking out for me and being protective ~=D
April 2nd, 2008 at 8:18 am
Oh the store looks simply wonderful!! I really hope the store hits off big time and is a total success!! ;) Open your next shop in the UK!! XD
I’m so going to have to arrange a visit to the US so I can come see you guys!
I look forward to more site updates!
April 2nd, 2008 at 8:22 am
“Normal” socks–LOL. I guess normal is in the eye of the beholder!!
April 2nd, 2008 at 8:38 am
Who would want “normal” socks when they could have such extraordinary socks? Congrats on the opening!
April 2nd, 2008 at 1:33 pm
WOOOO!!!! *** ^.^ *** I will have to find a way to come visit your store. Great work, and what an awesome success story. ^.^
April 2nd, 2008 at 6:31 pm
Niqkita, the store looks incredibly beautiful. I am so there next time I’m in Portland. =)
April 2nd, 2008 at 6:43 pm
Oooooh. Hooray the opening!
Those are not hours I can visit during the week, nor, sadly, even this weekend, but I shall have to visit soon.
April 3rd, 2008 at 2:26 pm
I swear when I first read about the store I started bouncing up and down in my chair and I swear I shrieked a little. Having helped open an independent store I know it is a tough but fulfilling endeavor. I wish I could see it in person, but I guess I’ll just have to keep supporting you online. Congratulations!
April 3rd, 2008 at 4:35 pm
Eeeeeeya! Must come visit. After all, it’s only a six hour drive from Seattle……… Anyway, I wish you the best of luck and a big Congrats to everyone! *kiss*
