The quest continues…

one of the first socks I bought and sold were the Pippy Longstockings.
Always a favorite, they are the ultimate comfort sock.
But even early on availability was sporadic at best with at least a couple of dry years when no amount of begging the folks responsible for EG Smith seemed to help. Then it did and they became plentiful, once again, sporadically. And all the while it has been my quest, to have them made in greater variety, longer, different patterns, textures, but no one, but one, seems able to do these just as they are, let alone better…
longer, better top stretch, colors? We have obtained and distributed an amazing variety of really cool socks, some of them pretty darned close…
but these remain just out of reach.

Last spring I was offered the real thing, made for us, longer, under our label and I jumped at it, along with the original length, leg warmers, stockings & tights.
The labels are gorgeous, by the way, wait til you see them.
As some of the most promising things in life go, we never did get that one item I wanted, the one sock that I made the whole deal in hopes of obtaining never showed up in a big box too heavy to lift. Lots of these did though, and leg warmers, OTK stockings (soon to be added) & Lemonade Stockings (we still need to cut those lemons & mix in the sugar, but the first batch will be up & ready for a picnic soon enough).
As of this past week I found out that we could not get the longer version afterall, the sample of the replacement version was not at all the same sock so I rejected it based on quality and cost. But this quest, and many other sock dreams, are far from over.
and now, a little flash back…

OMG the private label!!!!!!! Congratulations!!! I’m not sure I’m quite getting what’s going on though - so E.G. Smith now makes a series of items (tights, OTKs, etc.) exclusively for SockDreams under your label? All the while they’ll keep doing their own thing and offering their own stuff as usual?
Don’t feel so bad about the Pipi socks. I never tried them, so what do I know, but I’m just so excited about all the other items (esp. after that peek in the last post) as I’m sure many of us are! I can hardly wait to see what else is coming! And it seems that there are several other options for people who like thick slouchable socks… Plus where would we be if ALL our dreams came true? That would be a boring world, me thinks. Then we’d have nothing to whine about and bug you and where’s the fun in that? ;-P
Again, congratulations. Hope the private label exceeds your (and our) expectations =).

no, not EG Smith. The company that was responsible for EG Smith products up until last summer when EG changed hands to the folks responsible for B.ella, Nouvella & 2 Brothers Organics. So the former company contracted matching versions for us through the same mill. It may not have been my best move, but given the information I had at the time it appeared to be.
And yes, much more goodness on the way ~:)
I’ll post about the tights soon, there certainly is much to be said about them…
at the end of the month I have something really awesome to show off, but it isn’t something any of us can wear, unless we put it on a t-shirt, okay, we will be able to wear it but not yet.

Are these longer than the EG’s were? More stretchyer? Well there be more colors in the works. I ordered a pair anyway because they look great. Thanks ;-)

no, they are exactly the same except with a higher cotton content. We were supposed to get a longer version (as seen in the middle image) but in the end, that was a no go ~:(
We might try dying some, but with everything that is going on right now (store opening around april, new site being worked on ect…) I don’t see us taking on such a major project, BUT my EG rep is looking into getting us the original pippy in more colors ~:D

Those are very cute! How soft are they?

About the same as the bootsocks, not super soft like some, but thanks to all that cotton they soften nicely with time and washings.
