i didnt take your comments in any negative way either Brandy...and i think here at sock dreams i always have felt safe....everyone always has been polite and dignified in their comments and i too enjoy seeing everyones views on issues...as long as they dont get nasty/mean/useless - which i dont recall actually ever seeing here. flip flop i am - i mean it is difficult for me to say i will NEVER ever do or wont do something....maybe one day i can rule my life that way but as of now i am struggling with never ever bringing home another plastic bag from the store - we are getting pretty good at it - but every now and then one slips by. so i am far from faultless on "doing the right thing" but we all do what we can when we can i hope - and that is what i strive for - to grow and do more for the earth & its inhabitants day by day. ok i cant write it down all how it is in my head plus my arms are shaky from all day long shoveling out from the 24 hr snow we had here - so i will end now before i get even more incomprehendable....
love to all...
(and i adore the diamond ribs....adore - lucky ladies your mom and aunts!)

no worries Brandy! this is why I have been leary to bring it up, but at the same time I am eager to know how others feel about it if it doesn't get heated or personal, which i didn't feel your comment was, I think Amanda's attention to detail and desire to be precise was her main point...

My personal thinking is that the larger concern with China is the overall picture more than the treatment of their workers (not to downplay that part at all as it is indeed very important). But also important is that they have been responsible for many items that had unnecessary toxins in them being sold to feed pets or as childrens toys and while there will always be a margin of error in every facet of life these things could have been avoided and cause concern over their quality control measures.

My point was that when cheap items are made overseas corners are cut somewhere? It was not a criticism of Sock Dreams. I love Sock Dreams and didn't look at the fiber content before writing my post and for that I apologize. I have no problem with the pricing either. I just ordered a bunch of the diamond ribs for my mommy and 2 of my aunties. I'm really pissed off now. This is what happens every time a conversation about China comes up. For the record I have no problem buying from China or any other country. I don't fool myself about the hidden cost either. Look at the big picture.

The Diamond Ribs are only 80% cotton, Brandy. They wouldn't be nearly as stretchy as they are if they were 100%.

just came up from (finally) doing laundry....and (i air dry so in the winter i have lines run in the basement) i look at my nine pairs of assorted long black Sock Dreams socks hanging and realize that there are never enough long black Sock Dreams socks to go around during the yuck days of the long cold winter....sigh.....at the moment i have grey m40s on! because i have done run out of blacks.

Sock Dreams socks cannot be beat....for quality....for price....for cotton and wooliness warmth....for length....for love!

Sock Dreams Diamond Rib Knee Highs cost $8.00 a pair are 100% Cotton, and made in the USA. In this country we have the United Garment Workers Union and other labor laws. This same sock made in China sold in a large discount store would cost $5.00. Do you think that a store could sell this sock at $5.00 a pair if they were made in a factory that paid their employees about $5.00 US, Social Security, heat in the winter, then shipped said sock across the ocean and pay tax and duty? The answer is no. This is based on the assumption that unlike Sock Dreams they order 120,000 dozen per color. The problems I've seen come out of China in recent years are the use of chemicals that have been outlawed in other countries. They don't have a shortage of labor so there is no need to use child labor. India is the big exploiter of children.

yeah, I've gone back and forth on putting it on every page every time. Just like exact shades & fiber content it can change without notice from one batch to the next and can be really hard to keep track of. But I started a system a while back where I print the page and put it on the box we pull the socks from so that we see what you see when you order each time we pull. That way we would be moire likely to notice if the country, or fiber content changes and update as needed.
It will take a while to update each and every item with a country of origin but we will be working on the new site update soon and can cover a lot of it as we go (Dan & Olivia are hard at work on it now, but it will need our help when the big stuff is done next month).

BTW I love it when I cover something here and people actually read it before writing to us!!!

PS I'm home right now and can't check the label for the cable knee highs, but if I go in later I'll check (my day off, but I've yet to actually take a whole day off this month).

believe it or not, I was just going to email you guys about this exact issue....

I try my best to only buy US/Canada/reputable Euro- made products (for various personal reasons that we can all relate with), which is why I love your dream sock line, I have tons.

I was just wondering if the Hot Sox (specifically the cabeled ones) were made in china?

I don't know about phasing out MiC items altogether....but I would absolutely love it if each page noted where the sock was made.

This is the official answer from our rep and it is a good one:
Re: Hot Sox socks & leg warmers made in China
Hot Sox is a stickler on this... we give 10 percent to soo many causes... answer is no to child labor and awful conditions...
