Because sometimes we need a good laugh

Shark eats penguin sock
A Shark was swimming in a sea of B.ella Niegos
when a cute little baby penguin sock wandered by.
Brenna saw it coming so I had my camera ready.
But we were too busy laughing to save the penguin…
don’t worry though, socks can’t really eat each other.

In other news…
Awhile back we added a bunch of really cool new Hot Sox styles. We knew they were cool because we tried them, and we knew a lot of you were going to love them so I put in a really big order before making them live on the site. It seemed like there should be plenty of time to get them before we started running out…
But something went wrong somewhere between the call saying they were ready to send and them actually being sent. After several frantic phone calls last week boxes started arriving today. In between pulling orders we rushed to get them checked in and tonight I have added them back on to the site (they are currently at the top of the latest items page) but before you get too excited we did not get everything we ordered. Will more be coming tomorrow? or the next day?? we can hope and I will make some more calls and try to find out. Yes, we got some of the Button up leg warmers too, but only the olive and not as many as we wanted so I am not putting them on the latest items page. Right now I’m just happy we got some at all!

PS
we also got our “Long Scruffables” back in black…
The rest of the colors should be here in the coming days.
yes, I mean scrunchables…
but every since a customer wrote us calling them scruffables it stuck ~;)

lol reminds me of the canadianimals canoeing down a legwarmer river…

off to grab myself some olive warmers!

  2. Rebeckah Says:

aw how cute. lol @ scruffables. That’s too bad that Hot Sox’s service isn’t as awesome as their socks. I really loved all the new HS I bought and will review them as soon as I get my computer back from the shop. It’s taken them three weeks. I miss Herbert so much.

I had a nice conversation with our rep this morning, they had a major change occur during a very bad time to be changing anything. But she assures me this will not happen in the future and since I love her and their socks really are pretty awesome we’ll hope for the best for future orders ~:)

  4. shelleopard Says:

Ha! Nice! :) I hope HS does things right. I really love their angora blends!

one thing I’m kinda bummed about right now is that I noticed this afternoon the button up leg warmers are made in China ~:( not sure how I didn’t notice with the first shipment. For the longest time I have wanted to believe that is not necessarily a bad thing, but more and more I am questioning that and have been thinking about doing a whole post about it to get a consensus of how more of our customers feel about things made in China. It is a very small portion of the items that are. Plus, I know there are at least a few other countries that tend to have less than adequate standards for working conditions/pay ect…

well i do very much like those button ups….where ever they are made…..beautiful….and very good quality….there is a similar version at target not nearly as nice….the buttons on these here at sock dreams are so amazing….scrumptious….they remind me of hard candies!….plus i am not for sure if the target version actually work (the buttons)….i dont know….i waver….with the china thing….but just speaking on the button ups….they are fantastic. and i have gotten many compliments….one very lengthy and pleasant compliment took place at a china buffet (to keep in line with the china subject) and the hostess loved them…and we talked and talked about them and she buttoned them up and down and we went on to discuss where i got them and sock dreams and then moved on to my bamboos which i was also wearing…..so there you go. i dont know. ha. this was a whole lot of ramble. but i still like them buttons! no matter where they came from. good quality and gorgeous. xo

  7. T-Rex Says:

Maybe the factory that made the button ups are a cut (or two) above your typical Chinese factory? I would ask your HS rep what she knows.

  8. niqkita Says:

This is the official answer from our rep and it is a good one:
Re: Hot Sox socks & leg warmers made in China
Hot Sox is a stickler on this… we give 10 percent to soo many causes… answer is no to child labor and awful conditions…

  9. electropositive Says:

believe it or not, I was just going to email you guys about this exact issue….

I try my best to only buy US/Canada/reputable Euro- made products (for various personal reasons that we can all relate with), which is why I love your dream sock line, I have tons.

I was just wondering if the Hot Sox (specifically the cabeled ones) were made in china?

I don’t know about phasing out MiC items altogether….but I would absolutely love it if each page noted where the sock was made.

  10. niqkita Says:

yeah, I’ve gone back and forth on putting it on every page every time. Just like exact shades & fiber content it can change without notice from one batch to the next and can be really hard to keep track of. But I started a system a while back where I print the page and put it on the box we pull the socks from so that we see what you see when you order each time we pull. That way we would be moire likely to notice if the country, or fiber content changes and update as needed.
It will take a while to update each and every item with a country of origin but we will be working on the new site update soon and can cover a lot of it as we go (Dan & Olivia are hard at work on it now, but it will need our help when the big stuff is done next month).

BTW I love it when I cover something here and people actually read it before writing to us!!!

PS I’m home right now and can’t check the label for the cable knee highs, but if I go in later I’ll check (my day off, but I’ve yet to actually take a whole day off this month).

  11. Brandy Browner Says:

Sock Dreams Diamond Rib Knee Highs cost $8.00 a pair are 100% Cotton, and made in the USA. In this country we have the United Garment Workers Union and other labor laws. This same sock made in China sold in a large discount store would cost $5.00. Do you think that a store could sell this sock at $5.00 a pair if they were made in a factory that paid their employees about $5.00 US, Social Security, heat in the winter, then shipped said sock across the ocean and pay tax and duty? The answer is no. This is based on the assumption that unlike Sock Dreams they order 120,000 dozen per color. The problems I’ve seen come out of China in recent years are the use of chemicals that have been outlawed in other countries. They don’t have a shortage of labor so there is no need to use child labor. India is the big exploiter of children.

  12. raubynn Says:

just came up from (finally) doing laundry….and (i air dry so in the winter i have lines run in the basement) i look at my nine pairs of assorted long black Sock Dreams socks hanging and realize that there are never enough long black Sock Dreams socks to go around during the yuck days of the long cold winter….sigh…..at the moment i have grey m40s on! because i have done run out of blacks.

Sock Dreams socks cannot be beat….for quality….for price….for cotton and wooliness warmth….for length….for love!

    xo

  13. Amanda Says:

The Diamond Ribs are only 80% cotton, Brandy. They wouldn’t be nearly as stretchy as they are if they were 100%.

  14. Brandy Says:

My point was that when cheap items are made overseas corners are cut somewhere? It was not a criticism of Sock Dreams. I love Sock Dreams and didn’t look at the fiber content before writing my post and for that I apologize. I have no problem with the pricing either. I just ordered a bunch of the diamond ribs for my mommy and 2 of my aunties. I’m really pissed off now. This is what happens every time a conversation about China comes up. For the record I have no problem buying from China or any other country. I don’t fool myself about the hidden cost either. Look at the big picture.

  15. niqkita Says:

no worries Brandy! this is why I have been leary to bring it up, but at the same time I am eager to know how others feel about it if it doesn’t get heated or personal, which i didn’t feel your comment was, I think Amanda’s attention to detail and desire to be precise was her main point…

My personal thinking is that the larger concern with China is the overall picture more than the treatment of their workers (not to downplay that part at all as it is indeed very important). But also important is that they have been responsible for many items that had unnecessary toxins in them being sold to feed pets or as childrens toys and while there will always be a margin of error in every facet of life these things could have been avoided and cause concern over their quality control measures.

  16. raubynn Says:

i didnt take your comments in any negative way either Brandy…and i think here at sock dreams i always have felt safe….everyone always has been polite and dignified in their comments and i too enjoy seeing everyones views on issues…as long as they dont get nasty/mean/useless - which i dont recall actually ever seeing here. flip flop i am - i mean it is difficult for me to say i will NEVER ever do or wont do something….maybe one day i can rule my life that way but as of now i am struggling with never ever bringing home another plastic bag from the store - we are getting pretty good at it - but every now and then one slips by. so i am far from faultless on “doing the right thing” but we all do what we can when we can i hope - and that is what i strive for - to grow and do more for the earth & its inhabitants day by day. ok i cant write it down all how it is in my head plus my arms are shaky from all day long shoveling out from the 24 hr snow we had here - so i will end now before i get even more incomprehendable….
    love to all…
(and i adore the diamond ribs….adore - lucky ladies your mom and aunts!)

  17. Brandy Says:

Thanks you guys :). I love this site. Niq you’re right. Love, Peace, and Happiness.
