So busy!

Sock Dreams Warehouse Holiday Window
But keeping up & having fun!

The window faces north
it is at the far end of the Dream Stocking section
and is covered in beautiful snowflakes handmade by Liz & Amanda

The shelf holds our in-house labels for the Dream Stockings
Socks in need of folding are often in that area.
If you click on the image you can see a larger version.

Sock orders are coming in by the dozens & going out the door by the hundreds
and the hardest part of our day is keeping everything restocked
as more and more huge boxes come in that need to be checked in & put away
only to be sold again the very next day

More Sock Love

Sister Suite Stockings
The choreographer/director of the dance video in the last post sent me this still image this weekend. I love that they are all wearing our striped Dream Stockings!
I don’t get a chance to post every worthy picture people send us.
…but some are just so charming I can’t resist.

Now, to start our week…
two nice letters I found in feedback this morning:

Message:
I just received a variety of your socks/thigh highs from my hubby. I love the socks & your site and have added you to my bookmarks. I sense an addiction brewing ;)

Sincerely,
Rachel

Message:
Just found your site… where have I been. Thank goodness there are others who share my passion for socks. My faves are stripy ones – there used to be a store here in my town called Socks Appeal, but they have long since closed down, so I was left to scour the shelves during Halloween mostly to try to find some comforting socks… I had almost given up hope. Thank you again – soon to be a very loyal customer! :)

Malena

and an odd one…

where can I get info on mens floppy socks

thank you

Brian

Can anyone tell me what “men’s floppy socks” are exactly?

11/28/07 update, loose socks was what he sought.

Giving Thanks

We may not be at home, but we sure won’t be at work.
You can still call, email and order all you want in between stuffing bites.
We’ll be back bright and early Friday to take care of your sock needs.

As always,
many thanks, much love & warmest toes to you, our beloved sock fans!
xoxo

and now, girls in our stripes, dancing…

Dreaming of Stripes

Liz & Amanda recently dreamed up a whole new batch of stripy combinations…
dream-stripes.jpg
Last week they all arrived here at the warehouse
…so we set about trying them out and taking pictures
dream-stripes-reflection-2.jpg
Liz did the photography and write up (”copy”) for this style
and I was beckoned to join them for a group shot to use for the thumbnail
…it was a welcome break from my daily doings! We both had cameras so I shot a few from my perspective. They are pretty colors, unusual combinations I wouldn’t have thought up myself, and the usual old-fashioned fit, like the other striped Dream Stockings have. Someone recently referred to this as being “from the days before lycra”. Actually, they do have a touch of lycra in them, just not that snug, hold onto your every curve, kind of lycra content most socks have, and many of us like it that way. They go over our knees and stay in our dreams, they may not stay up perfectly or fit everyone and we love them just the same! if you love our various colored knees combos or our M Stripes these are a cornucopia of yummy new choices!

Sock Dreams at Utilikilts

I ran away to Seattle Friday morning to see a sock rep
…and, to visit with Utilikilts!
utilikilts-sock-dreams-disp.jpg
We first saw a Utilikilt on a Trader Joe’s employee a few years ago and were instantly smitten. We asked him about it, where did it come from, how do you like it, ect… and were very impressed with the look, quality & functionality. You see, during my 11 years working at TJ’s I’d worn a skirt maybe once or twice, only on holidays when I wouldn’t be unloading any trucks or pallets. So to see a man working in one as if it were better than jeans was huge to us as we’d always felt men should be able to enjoy the same freedom women have experienced for years (nevermind historical data, we’re talking modern times here).
Fast forward to this past summer when we got this message:

Oh Ye Who Keep My Toes Toasty,

I have made several orders with you personally, and send many of my
customers (both male and female) to you as well. Our flagship retail
store is now open in Pioneer Square in Seatte, and we won’t just be
stocking kilts! I did as I was bade, and read the FAQ, and have seen
that you are currently not accepting wholesale accounts. However, I
wanted to ask if I could possibly change your mind! Kilts and good
socks go together like peas and carrots, and yours are the best I’ve
found. I’m highly interested in carrying your Sock Dreams label socks
in our store. I’d love to talk with you about this personally.

Thanks so much!

If we were only going to do one wholesale account ever, this would be the one!
(no offense to the rest who have requested our socks, really, we love you all, but come on, Utilikilts!!!) So a deal was struck and as you see in the first picture our socks are hanging proudly with their belts, surrounded by tons of Utilikilts being sold by some of the sharpest sales people I’ve ever encountered. I even got the full tour of their warehouse around the corner…
utilikilts-door.jpg
It was an awesome day, they are located in my very favorite part of Seattle, if you go there you absolutely must visit! I highly recommend going by train, Amtrak can always use your support, and there is so much to do and see all within walking distance of the train station (which is still being renovated back to it’s original glory).

So, here’s to freedom, the freedom to wear what you enjoy and enjoy what you wear, the freedom to stand out from the crowd, the freedom to change the way people dress, and most of all, the freedom of choice, choose to be unique!

M Squared

Love them or leave them

Msquared at work
I was walking around the warehouse last week taking the pictures for why the building isn’t green. And there she sat, outside the side door on her lunch-break, wearing these super cute shoes, she adorned them with lace herself, and one of the buttons was knocked off when she as hit by a car recently (don’t worry, she is fine, thankfully!). Laura is one of many fun sock lovers working among us here at Sock Dreams and I was happy to see her back at work, and wearing one of my favorites. But are they other people’s favorites? it seems some people do not like them and find them too thin, or think they fall down too easily. And since we are currently out we wondered, should we get them back? I think so, I really like mine, maybe we just need to describe them better? It will be so nice when the day comes that we can have customer comments & feedback right there with the items in a special section (that time is coming!) I know we really do have more on their way this time…
but what if we really did discontinue them?
…would you miss them?

In memory of FUP

As posted on Powells.com
FUP, Powell’s store cat, 1988-2007
(photo also from Powells.com)
Zooey speaks, chasing the quiet. The others are thankful just to hear a voice, to escape their own thoughts.

He says, “I stayed overnight once with a woman whose mother had asked for a coffin with a glass lid so she could see all her friends dancing at the wake, giving thanks for the forces that brought them together.”

“Did they do it?” Bagheera asks.

“Not the glass lid. But apparently it made everyone feel better, telling the story. And they did dance.”

Fup wasn’t much of a dancer, but she had her moments.

Bear confirms, “We should dance.”

Soon, but not quite yet. When they’re ready, no doubt Oreo and Chester will be the ones to get them started.

…I was lucky enough to work with FUP at Powell’s Technical Bookstore while I was planning our sock site several years ago. She was a crotchety old tabby who took long naps in between walking the aisles of books. Her very presence made the life-dramas that seemed to occur during that time more bearable for me and everyone else working there. She was appreciative of every bit of scratching and sweet talk that came her way and I know it is a sad week at that store. I found out this morning while watching the local news, and while I like to keep the Sock Journal full of happy thoughts I also thought it appropriate to honor the passing of this great cat whose memory will live on in the many fun stories of her adventures at Powell’s.
