Super News

These just in…
Super Basics, slouched to perfection
Pretty basic, kinda long, 85% cotton, 15% spandex, totally comfy
Cuffed and ready to go…
Solid colors = all the way from the tops to the tippy toes
Wear ‘em high or scrunch em down, they’re totally cute cuffed above the knees
What are they? Super Basics!!!
All the way up!
unlike the Super Ms they fit nicely around the ankles like the O Basics.
This is our first run of them
…and they’re so new we don’t have our pictures together yet.
But I know that won’t stop the most dedicated among you from trying them because you already know what the colors look like. We’ll be getting more colors and the larger feet in anyday now, yes, that’s right, the same stretchy feet the O Basics have in the usual size and a larger size.
I’ve been testing my pair for a few days now and during a warm spell besides, not always the best time to test thigh high anythings, but I fell in love anyway. They are fully convertible for lots of different moods or outfits or coverage needs and lighter weight than the M Stockings & Long Cuffables. The top stretch is very good: everyone here could pull them up, though like most socks they don’t go as high on larger legs (we’re adding a few inches in the length of the larger footed ones, I don’t think that’s in the first run, but will be in the next batch & I’ll know for sure as soon as they arrive). One last thing before we start the open sock thoughts discussion: the cuffs are new and improved since the O Basics began, they just have three inches of ribbing at the tops with increased stretch, I think most of you are going to love them ~:)

larger footed AND with a few more inches in length??? xoxoxoxoxoxo

  2. Babylon Says:

    yay long lighter weight socks!

don’t tell me about overheating lol… I took photos today of the long cable knit leg warmers, it was 90 degrees outside *yikes* *death* ;P

  3. Sena Says:

WOO HOO! Solid almost-thigh-highs in a summer-friendly knit. I love you!!!!!!

  4. Rebeckah Says:

  5. Janey Says:

They go all the way to the top of the thigh on short little me. I love ‘em.

  6. Cheryl Says:

    YAY!!!!

    *smiles*

And some other things in my life are going so wonderful, too, fantastic socks to top it all off. ;D

  7. Joy Says:

OMG!!!!!!They’re soooo cool, plus ur wearing them with that pair of boots that i LOVE soooo much!!!!!The sox seem 2 be comfy and super duper warm!!!!!!

  8. homes Says:

    Niqkita, you are gorgeous.

  9. Sena Says:

Hmm, how warm are they actually? It says thinner than the O Basics. Is it something like the texture of O Pastels (which are described as thinner than O Basics as well)?

  10. niqkita Says:

No, thinner than the M Stockings and Long Cuffable…
they are exactly like the O Basics, but longer.
Can you tell me where you read that so I can fix it?

  11. Cheryl Says:

Ahhhh!!! I can’t decide which to get first!! Lol.

  12. Cheryl Says:

Oh, here’s a question: is the Navy the super dark one, or is it more like the Navy of the Cuffables?

  13. Mary Says:

    J’adore Super Basics!!!

  14. niqkita Says:

it is a nice true navy like the cuffables, soft too ~:)

  15. Sena Says:

Doh! You’re right, Niq. You did NOT say they’re thinner than the O Basics. Im sorry for causing confusion. Cheryl, I ordered a pair of the navy today (Im really hoping they wont be too warm for here) so I’ll review them on socks_fun when I get them.

  16. Eva Says:

I love, love love mine. They are stretchy enogh not to cause a dent on my plump thighs and yet they stay up well. They’re long enough to be worn with a garter belt for an old-fashioned look. In fact, I’m going to be blasphemous here: I like them better than the Cronert OTKs.
Here you can see a photo of me wearing them (and some of my fabric stash in the background): http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y252/aleydis/socks/whitebasic.jpg

  17. Cheryl Says:

Eva, very nice! And adorable shoes, of course!!

Niq, will more colors be added, and if so, which and any idea when? If you don’t have this info now, would you keep us updated on that?

And now I have to scan the page *again* and try desperately to choose which color to get. lol.

  18. niqkita Says:

Absolutely! these are what the M40s & M43s were meant to be and I want to get them in every color we can. How soon is unknown as we wanted to start slowly and be sure everyone else likes them as much as we do, plus, with the move coming up I’m trying not to increase stock more than necessary…

  19. Rebeckah Says:

I’m curious to know which characteristics of the M40/43s made them get thrown over for something shorter? I love my M40s sooooo much & never understood why you discontinued them, other than the baggy ankle thing, but tons of the stripes do that. I’m excited to try these out.

Are more black Fuzzy Tube Arm & Leg Warmers coming any time soon? I hope I hope. I figured since they were a warmer they wouldn’t sell out so quick in spring. Boy was I wrong! ;)

  20. Cheryl Says:

Excellent! Then I’ll definitely have to get a pair and let you know what I think.

  21. Cheryl Says:

    Aha, I noticed the OTK N40s! :)

  22. niqkita Says:

The M40/M43s were too baggy in the feet and ankles and there was too much ribbing at the tops and didn’t have as much stretch as desired by many of our larger legged friends. Compared to the sales of other items they were no longer carrying there own weight as it were. Stripes and solids are made on different machines with different capabilities, when we can get the stripes without the baggy we’ll switch those out too. There are inevitable limitations to what we can have produced because I don’t want to get our Dream Stockings made over seas or by anyone other than the family that has been making them all these years for us ~:)

The fuzzy warmers are on their way BUT someone put in an order for almost all of them for a theater so I have another MUCH BIGGER order in too because I didn’t anticipate demand being so strong for these either .

  23. Brandy Says:

Stripes: if they made a fully formed solid foot and started the stripe above or at the ankle could they get a better fit? I saw pictures of Portland on another blog, how green and pretty. Is it beautiful this time of year? Portland is a place I must at least visit.

  24. Brandy Says:

EG you must review these once you get them. Let us larger legged girls know how they stretch. I hope they are as good as the O Marled.

  25. niqkita Says:

yeah, I think so, but striped feet is an important part of the point at this point. In striped related news: there is an OTK version of the Rugby Stripes coming!!! (also made in the USA).

    Portland is GORGEOUS right now…
green and blooming in all colors everywhere.

  26. Cheryl Says:

I *like* the bagginess of the socks sometimes. I think it can look terribly cute, essentially in the same way that leg warmers look cute, for their bagginess and scrunchiness. I enjoy being able to have the option, amongst my many socks, of having something baggy or snug, depending on the rest of my outfit. Baggy can be nice and comfy, too, and thus, more preferable for lounging around in, or sleeping in–I hate sleeping in snug socks, it’s too constricting. My favorite aspect of the bagginess, though, is that it’s kind of fun because it reminds of little kids whose socks are too big, and it’s always fun to feel like a kid sometimes. :)

Goodness, time for me to figure out what socks I’m wearing out tonight! Heehee!

  27. Eva Says:

I am rather rather large-legged, though I’m not tall. My legs are 29″ from heel to crotch and my thighs are 23″ at the widest point. And they fit me wonderfully.

  28. Rebeckah Says:

Thank you Niq that is very interesting to me. See I just don’t understand how others didn’t love them as much as me? But then, I don’t like horizontal stripes, so it takes all kinds. lol :) & yay for more warmers. I’ll keep an eye on them

  29. Babylon Says:

    Well I liked M40/43s lol ;P

I want these new ones in seafoam! ;)
… I’m sure nobody saw that one coming ;P

    …and bubblegum too!

whatever happened the the minty green colour? I liked that one too lol *I have probably asked that before*

  30. Mary Says:

The problem with M socks was the top stretch. My thighs are about 21-22″ at the widest, and they were really tight. These new ones should be perfect.

  31. Mary Says:

How many otk N socks do you have? Are they likely to run out soon?

  32. Sena Says:

Natural, dark brown, and plum would be nice too… I’m yet to find a nice long sock in natural. The Natural Ribbed Ms were way too tight on me so I returned them. From the pic, the Ecru Cronerts seem to emphasize the kneecaps, which happens with thin socks. And I have the Natural Cuffables but they are really thick and kind of remind me of grandma… Or am I just too picky? lol. In any case, the Super Basics seem just about the right in-between thickness. OH I CAN’T WAIT FOR MY NAVY PAIR!!!!!!

  33. Amanda Says:

Regarding Portland, I for one think it’s the prettiest place in the whole world, but I’m terribly biased. When I move back (week from Monday YAY) I should take some socky pictures in Ladd’s Addition, where I live. It’s a gorgeous neighborhood, especially this time of year.

  34. Rebeckah Says:

Yay Babsie! I know you like them too.. I loved your pic of the sky{?} blue M43s with the white antoinettes. That is such a great look.

I’m glad the black Super Basics has dark toe thread. It looks funny to me to have a bright white seam across the toes. Especially if I’m dressed all in black. lol. I hope they’re not to so thin they’re crunchy. I have a pair of socks like that. I’d love to see lilac, that’s such a great colour & those wine shades of the Cronerts are phenomenal! More wine! 8-)

  35. Babylon Says:

Actually they were the sky blue O Pastels, I don’t think I have M43s in sky blue…*looks*… nope

I’ll have to try these when I get money *curses zappos* lol

  36. niqkita Says:

Mary~ not many sage, but quite a few of the others, but don’t wait too long, everyone loves a clearance item and we don’t plan to carry these again, at least, we have no plans of that sort right now.

We’ll do these supers in each and every color we can, but we have to go slow right now, you know, summer, and…
    MOVING SOON!!!

  37. EG Says:

BRANDY…. as soon as the Large sized is stocked, I’ll swoop in and grab my first pair of these. I can’t wait to try them. :O)

  38. EG Says:

Actually, I think these have the possibility of being pretty darn perfect for sock lovers in my size range (as larger feet and longer length were the things the O’basics needed to work on me). It’s exactly what I pined for when I wore and wrote about the O’basics.

    YAY!!!

(Click here to see my original O’Basics review.)

  39. Cheryl Says:

YAY!! I LOVE my new Super Basics!! I can easily pull them up thigh high, they’re thin, so they’ll be wonderful in the warmer weather, and in the cooler, with stockings underneath, they’ll be fine.

The new ribbing on the tops looks great, too!!

I am curious about something in comparison to the M43s, because I have those in Charcoal, which I just got the Super Basics in. Is there a difference in the thickness of the yarn itself, since the M43s are heavier? And if so, why choose the lighter, thinner yarn? I’m just being curious and nosy. ;)

And the “mistake” nylon knee highs, they’re wonderfully OTK on me. And if I had super skinny legs, I bet I could even get them up to thigh high.

  40. niqkita Says:

yes, they are different thicknesses in the different colors. At this point my best answer is thinner yarn is better than no yarn. Plus, the thicker yarn doesn’t always play well with the machines that make some of the different styles. I have been urging them to get the feet thicker on these if nothing else, but not a lot thicker…

  41. Sena Says:

Uh oh. As I actually don’t want thicker at all because that means warmer and it’s always summer where I am, then should I order as many Super Basics as I can from the current batch before they get made thicker? P.S. We already have the Ribbed Ms and the Cuffables that are thicker… why do we need more of those? This should be put to a vote =(.

  42. niqkita Says:

No, not thicker to be warmer, just thicker in the feet to make sure they last as long as the tops, but not to worry, I have been informed that the machine responsible for knitting these babies can only do them this one way ~:)
