The Truth about the Dots

I’m not a dot lover. But it can’t always be about me and what I like can it?
So when Simone showed me these

my heart thumped for those of you who do love the dots.
Much to my surprise, when they arrived I actually liked them. Now for the bad part…

When stretched beyond 16.5 inches around the dots distort noticeably revealing what appear to be holes and loose threads. This is a pretty common thing for socks with patterns (the fuzzier the yarn the less noticeable this & many other sock flaws are).
I was able to rearrange the dots by running my hands over them a bit to make them rounder, it lessened the gap between the red & black. As long as you turn these inside out and wash them gently the threads should not unravel. This is all less noticeable on the black with white dots. The top few inches do not have spots and can be left up or folded down, they’ll stay up pretty well either way. They’ll be just over the knees on longer/larger legs and nearly thigh high on shorter thinner legs. The feet, like most Cronert feet, fit great. If you’re an 8.5/9 I’d go for the smaller size; 9.5 and up go for the larger sized.
The truth is that I love these!!!

Normally I’m not found singing the praises of polka dots either… but wow… I have to say that these look gorgeous! I love that they come in OTK, and I bow and kiss the toesies of Cronert for making sizes appropriate for all feets (by the way, those solid color cotton over knees of theirs look irresistible!). I may just have to try these out (I imagine the black and white ones would look wonderfully pattern clashy with a pair of black and white hounds tooth flats that I have)… hmmmm… very tempting for me.
Also, my argyle OTK’s do that same fraying/hole/stretchy thingie on my bigger legs… I wish they didn’t do that, but it certainly isn’t a big enough deterrent for me not to wear them… and I must say that it does add some ‘well loved looking’ character to them (especially when you wear them dressed down as I often do with high top cons or combat booties). Still works for me… but am so grateful for the heads up so that we can make informed decisions prior to purchase… ahhh I love this place :O)

EG, I wore the solid cotton OTKs yesterday, and they were verrrry nice. They do creep down a little, but not enough to really bug, and they feel fantastic on your skin.

Thanks Janey! … have you ever worn the EG smith cotton flat knit OTKs? I was wondering how the Cronerts would compare to those (since I love the EG smith ones, but the feet and the length is a touch too short on me.. perhaps the Cronerts wouldn’t have that shortness?)

The Cronerts definitely have bigger feets in the larger size ~:) and I found the two way stretch and stay up power better on these (as it should be for the price ~;)

Oh, I love the read and black. But I want to know how they fit EG before I order any ;)

I have not ever worn the EG Smiths, sorry! The Cronerts fit me beautifully, maybe a tad bit big, but I’m only 5′ tall…

Oh three cheers for these socks! I fell in love with the red and black otks the minute I saw them, and they made my day! Comfortable all day long, even running up and down these crazy berkeley hills. I felt warm and cozy without burning up, and it was some of the softest material my leggies have ever felt! They even fit my larger thighs without cutting in or leaving a crease! Hip, hip, horray!!
