Sweet and preppy

thigh highs with hearts
These lovely thigh highs with woven hearts are not only adorably cute, but make a nice contrast to a more preppy outfit, like a tartan skirt. So hearts are not only for Valentines and romance, but fit nicely for work too.
They come in both black and white and, to my great joy, in both plus and “normal” size. My legs aren’t long, but plump, so one size socks often get too short, or create a bulge in the thigh. But not with plus size.
They don’t stay up on their own, but then I think this kind of romantic, yet sexy, stockings look best with a garter belt.
The stockings are very sheer, but not particularly easily snagged. To avoid snagging from the zippers in my ankle boots I wore a pair ofFlat Knit Bell Top Anklets, a lovely thin, seamless rayon anklet that takes virtually no place in your shoes with them. These anklets are wonderful if you want to protect thin stockings in boots without adding bulk. They show a lot in this picture, but that’s because of the angle the photo is taken from. And the blue sort of matches the skirt.

Vertically Violet

New Vertically Inclined Stockings
Every day we get BIG boxes of socks delivered fresh to us…
This week we have some new colors in and some exciting samples of new styles to try. Everything purple in cotton Dreamies is now arriving as violet. This violet is more vibrant than the lavender; we really like it, though we didn’t feel the difference was worth taking new photos. The new white version of our vertically inclined are here, more due in the next day or so. The top stretch didn’t feel any different to me, around 20 inches will be most comfortable, but stretching, especially wet stretching, will always help by at least an inch or two of gained comfort.
Much as I love the violet vertically inlined above it was the olive that I loved the most in this batch, I hope they get here today! New Yummies are coming too!!!

…and come over my knees… yay!

And well over my knees at that! They stayed there pretty well too.

The Vertically Inclined socks are quite stretchy, super good looking(I love the kelly and the purrrrple) and comfy so you can look good and feel good at the same time ;)

I know that only one colour is in stock right now, but I’m sure they’ll be back shortly. lol they’re the only photos I had ready ;P

Meet Midge

Wooly, stripey, pretty & warm. Midge is another dream come true at Sock Dreams
Sometimes it seems as if each Biella is even nicer than the last.
But to me Midge really stands out from the crowd for not only being warm and beautiful but cool & versatile as well. Did I mention soft? I could sleep in these for days. They went well with sneakers & boots and are sleek & stretchy enough around the feet to work with Mary Janes & heels. Really nice for keeping the winter chill out and light enough to enjoy in spring too. Midge could only be dreamier of she had a longer sister, maybe someday she will…

Delicious!!!

The super long cable leg warmers are soo very yummy!

It isn’t often that those of us with both larger AND longer legs get warmers that fit us with decadent loose folds and extra length. Most of the time the styles of leg warmers I see on the more petite girls would truly only fit me as an armwarmer.

But these are MINE MINE MINE :O)

They fit me with extra length going well up into my mid thigh, lovely cascades of folds and draped excess… And yes, they even went easily over my big ole large calves too. I have to say that these lovely longer warmers fit my legs perfectly!

The texture of these is really fun… Very fuzzy, perhaps even hairy? I want to say they are like mohair but am not sure that’s quite right. Either way, initially I was a bit nervous that they would be scratchy… But on they feel wonderful and not itchy at all, they even soften up quite nicely in the wash.

They don’t stay up on their own for very long (especially after lots of washings and wearings)… But I’ve found that my snappy garters hidden under a lovely OTK cuff keep them up just fine for me. I think I need to get myself one of the ankh garters now (the black and sliver of them would look amazing with these warmers).

There was some talk about which end is up when it comes to warmers… Ruffle foot or ruffle OTK… Well these have a ruffle on both ends :O) but still… When I am putting them on, I keep my eye on which end I’d previously worn up on my thighs (if you have ample pins like mine, it will be noticeable), and I make sure I always wear my thigh ends on my thighs. It keeps the ankle ruffle pretty.

I grabbed two pairs of these before they last ran out… The new colors are now in, I absolutely MUST have two pairs of each of the colors. These come in so handy for days around the house… I wear my lace trimmed boxer shorts with them, and couldn’t possibly be more comfy. Don’t even bother putting these away in the sock drawer… keep em handy cause you’ll just keep reaching for them over and over again.

LOVE THESE… LOVE LOVE LOVE EM!

Sock Love

Chenille hearts for toes to love
Some adore this day, some abhor it, some are indifferent…
I’m generally rather indifferent, but for some reason I feel more like celebrating this year, perhaps it’s because these socks inspire so much love for fuzzy hearts, or perhaps it is because I am so inspired by the ones I love. So to all of you, regardless of how you feel about this day, find something to feel warm and fuzzy about, even if just for a moment, even if it is just the yummy socks hugging your toes and enjoy that moment. Because love, laughter and comfy socks will get you through almost anything and will make the best of days even better!

Made in Korea

Comfy plumy socks at the park
Most Biella socks are made in the USA which tickles my toes to no end because we love US made socks. Some Biellas are made in Italy, Mmmm, European quality, style = happy toes. But these are made in Korea which surprised me, we do have other socks of Korean and Chinese origin, several suppliers have their socks made there, and I must say, these are really quite nice! a nylon poly blend, but so soft and warm and comfy, also not as temperamental in the wash. I wore my pair Plumy marled Slipped socks for a couple of days and my only complaint was that they slipped off easily in bed. They were comfy in shoes though and didn’t slip around or make my shoes snug despite how plush they feel, plus they have such great stretch I am sure they will fit larger feet comfortably too ~:)

Miss Dater Angora Thigh Highs

MissDater's Angora

If you’re looking for a scrumptious pair of socks to keep your feet and legs warm, I suggest the Miss Dater Angora Thigh Highs. When I first saw the white color I knew I HAD to have it. It is so sweet with tiny flecks of other colours mixed in to it. Even the name is sweet: *baby’s blanket cream*. Doesn’t that just sound comforting? And they really are comforting when on too. They’re warm and soft, and the white pair surprised me by having NO itch to them at all… even before washing!

As our beautiful sock friend Eva pointed out to me, these are made with the perl knit side showing on the outside, which gives it a nice weaved look. I found you can easily wear these inside out if you prefer keeping the perl look on the inside. The toe seam is small enough that it doesn’t really look like you’re socks are on inside out. However, these do get much fuzzier and softer with washing and time, so I recommend deciding on which side to wear on the outside before washing & wearing. The horribly blown out picture below really captured how fuzzy my *cranberry* pair has gotten. {Just ignore the bad photography.}

The top part has a long ribbed section that keeps them up really well. I rarely need to adjust these at all. I got my white pair to stretch to 14″ before washing. The reds which have been washed a few times can stretch to 18″ in width. These are a good OTK length, even allowing me an ample cuff.

MissDater's Angora

They’re made of 45% modal rayon, 20% angora, 17% polyester, 15% wool and 3% spandex. You would think the angora and wool might itch, and right out of the package you’re right! ;) Somehow my red pair itches more than the white, even after many washings. But you can easily wear these over a tight or another stocking. In fact, that adds drama as the colour shows through the pretty crochet holes of the Dater’s.

At $32 they are a higher end item, but they are well worth it for the comfort and beauty of a nice sock. They have formed feet which fit my 6.5s wonderfully. But since there is spandex in these, they do have a really good stretch and recovery. So larger feet should be happy in these too. I love these so much that I’m buying all the colours of them.

Changes

Sock Dreams order shelf full of order ready to be packed & shipped
Thanks to Olivia & Dan we now have a shiny new journal format with many new features, some not yet implemented. The archives will be fully functional soon and now that I’m aware of the approval system for new comments those should show up faster. I have to admit I was a little intimidated by this new process and was reluctant to come in and post for the first time, but so far so good!
We started training our new hires this week and if you know how that tends to go you know we are all tired and barely kept up most of the week. But we’re really happy with both as they possess a love & joy for socks & Sock Dreams that I was looking & hoping for as well as being fun to be in a crowded room with, something that is super important to us all in the times ahead til we move into that warehouse I’m dreaming up. To those who were not picked as the best fit this time, we will be in touch next time, it was a tough choice with such great applicants! Thanks again to all who applied and all who just generally had really nice words of support and encouragement in our time of need!!!
