Snow in Portland
My snow-day sock choice: lilac military bootsocks
…they kept my feet warm and dry for walking to and from work, working all day and then playing in the snow before dinner.
In Portland it snows a little nearly every winter but it rarely sticks. When it does the city and the surrounding region comes to a stop, the news tells us to stay home & avoid driving as our streets become a disaster. It’s funny having lived in places where snow is a way of life in winter, then again, when I lived in S California a good rain had the same effect. Early Tuesday morning we had a nice snow fall, perhaps you’ve seen the footage? cars sliding endlessly out of control, dozens of sledding accidents, wear a helmet and stay home folks, that snow is dangerous.
Fortunately Bsti, Lola & I only have to walk about nine blocks to get to work and two more employees live within reasonable walking distance for when the buses aren’t running so we were quite short handed yesterday and may be today & tomomrrow as well. We’re getting orders pulled and sent and trying to keep up with answering the phone and monitoring emails.
Now to put my boots on and hike on over the Sock Dreams headquarters…
Paypal update:
since last Friday people have sporadically had trouble ordering from us paying with Paypal, some folks had trouble, some did not. we had a whole day of freezing rain/ice pellet combo on monday… that got ugly lol… the accident of note was the tanker truck of liquid oxygen flipped over on the highway leaking all over the place.

We had an overnight low of 19 degrees F for a few days, and the governor declared a state of emergency. Keep in mind it was still in the 50’s during the day.

You are so lucky to have actual snow! All we have is sheet upon sheet of ice. It’s quite deceptive, really - it looks like snow but then its rock hard. However, it has brought about quite a vacation. Friday was only half a day at school, and yesterday and today were both “snow” days! *sigh*

We usually get a lot more snow than we have this year. And it’s funny, you would think people would be good at driving in it by now, but all the time on the first couple days there are stupid accidents. I remember a few years ago people were sliding through other people’s yards into stop signs and sliding all over the road, I saw three minor accidents in the mile drive to the bus stop or work (wherever it was I was going that day) and it was all so funny to me. I’m not the best at driving in snow but it really wasn’t that bad, and you’re supposed to go slow in my small community to begin with.

Here in NYC we are now experiencing what I consider our third day of winter this year. We have had no snow.. and every day this season with exception of the three I speak of had 50’s-70 degree weather. I love snow and I adore the chill of winter… I hope some of that snow over there comes our way pretty soon. Vel and I are growing tired of balmy weather and long for the opportunity to wear socks in layers and cute mittens.

The reason snow in PDX is dangerous is becuase when the temp reaises just a little bit and then drops the snow next to the asphalt melts and become ice. It’s not hyperbole, it is dangerous.

Hahaha, sledding accidents? People here in SoCal can drive through blanket-thick fog yet flip when there’s rain and everything goes to hell when snow comes around (perhaps it’s only because hell freezes over before the first snowflake can be seen!). Ahh, the good old days of Idaho, when black ice was expected and four feet of snow just meant you needed to rev it a little more. :D Isn’t weather interesting?

Hahaha that does sound like a good Portland motto. Here in Eugene we’ve had our (hopefully only) dose of snow, and I’m already tired of the stuff. It’s no fun when you have to go to class anyway, and definitely no fun when it stays for a week longer than it should. At least by now my car doesn’t have ice on it anymore.

In Ann Arbor we had 3 nights of rain that froze, ..it was like 30 degrees and pouring rain… it was weird…. so all the trees look like they’re made of glass… and my new car is dripping with icicles.
