Too Elastic-y For Me

…that was a bad rhyme lol
I don’t personally find the long cuffable socks comfy, but here are the photos I took of them because they turned out neat. enjoy! :)

edited for review:

They are just too tight, behind my knees especially and it cuts off the circulation to my lower leg which on me tends to cause some cramping in the calf muscles. I could only get these about 3/5 of the way up my thigh (shown in first photo) they just would not go any further, which is odd because all of my M40s/M43s I can pull all the way up. I’m not sure what else to add, the cuffables just are too tight for me.

my charcoals are very tight…i could never get them up to my hips- well, not comfortably anyway….but they are so snug they fit wonderfully under my slacks at work and with my heels…..so i do love them…just for different things than i use the m40/43s for.

  2. Kaitlen Says:

I have the pink pair and they go all the way up on me, and all the way around my 19″ thighs comfortably. But I don’t know about the other colors. The only thing I dislike about the socks is the transition from the thicker knit to the finer knit at the ankle…

  3. Babylon Says:

Rebeckah’s pair was black, which makes it more confusing lol

  4. Eva Says:

I was wondering if the difference was in teh elastic threads. The browns, which fit Amanda so admirably and the dark reds and hunter greens, which fit me prefectly, all have black elastic thread. The lilacs, which both Babylon and Rebeckah tried, have white elastic thread. Could there be a pattern depending on the softness/elasiticy of the rubber threads?

Um….I’d like to apply for the sock testing job…tee hee….Happy Halloween.

  6. anonymous Says:

maybe just the difference in the elastic in the tops?

  7. Mary Says:

    HAPPY HALLOWEEN! : D

  8. Niqkita Says:

Babs, how many colors do you have? Heidi is offering to test all the colors for comparison. Even among our other suppliers different colors seem to run different lengths/tightness…

  9. fox Says:

My legs have similar measurements as Babylon’s – but my ankles/calves are a bit smaller and thighs 1/2 inch bigger. I have these in black and didn’t find them to be too tight at all. But, I don’t think the thighs could stretch beyond 21.5 inches, however. HTH.

  10. Babylon Says:

that was the toe seam thread you’re thinking of, so that the seam wont stick out so much on the darker coloured socks.

  11. Amanda Says:

Hmmmmm… didn’t they change recently? Something about black instead of white bits on some of the darker colors? Maybe that made for a different level of stretch? Because my pair of Walnut ones would easily fit someone with 20″ thighs.

  12. Rebeckah Says:

my black pair stretched a max of NINE inches, so that makes 18″ around. & I was pulling really hard. I have run these thru the dryer once already to try and shrink the foot, but they were really tight on my first wearing even. eeks my thighs are 17″ now cuz I lost 10 pounds during the move. soooo not good. somebody make me a sammich already please.

  13. Mary Says:

Gosh, I’m confused. How could they be so tight on skinny legs and fit just dandily on larger legs?? Maybe the different colors *do* have different amounts of stretch. Hmm…*strokes chin in contemplation*

  14. karen dawn Says:

In my experience, different colours do have different levels of stretch: I have 2 pairs of the long cuffables, and there is a difference in the way they each fit me. My Charcoal pair fits like Amanda’s in the review below – I can pull them all the way up, and my thighs are 24″ around at the top. My Natural pair fits more like Babylon’s Lilacs, I think – they’re definitely tighter than the Charcoals, and I can’t pull them up nearly as high. I feel that tightness behind my knees, too. I will order more of these, I’m sure, but I will hope that they fit a bit more like the Charcoals, because they are really the first socks that have ever come up to the tops of my thighs and stayed there.

  15. Babylon Says:

I stretched the top of the sock and I could just barely get it to 18″(stretched flat and doubled) and that was pulling hard. the widest part of my thigh right now is 20 1/4″ but I couldn’t even get them near that area.

  16. Cheryl Says:

Hmm. It is odd that you say that you could not get them to go up higher, Babylon. You’re legs are pretty skinny, though, aren’t they? Have you measured with a tape measure how much they will stretch in circumference at the tops? I have two pairs, and I can pull up both all the way just fine, and my thighs are about 19-20″ around the thickest parts. Maybe the ones you got are a little flawed? That just seems strange that you could not get them higher.

opinions, all opinions, we all have em, not all requests can be filled, it’s just the nature of life and yeah, more info Babs…

  18. RAUBYNN Says:

ok i think i sorta feel the same….i do find these cuffables very snug….but for some looks this is nicer/better…..i love the M40s/M43s for casual wear- i ADORE them as flip-flop socks. they are super comfy but they do droop off my feet during in & outs of bed….so thats my two cents. and i also dont feel comfy in the cuffables way up on my legs, where the M40s/M43s seem better for those purposes. these two socks are different moods.

  19. heidi Says:

i’m on the other end: i don’t care for the m43’s (which i find to have an odd mid-leg transition from flat knit to ribbing) but i love the cuffables enough to buy every colour. they are soft and comfy and slouchy and warm. everything i cherish in a sock.

  20. shelleopard Says:

silly babs, tell us whyyy! Honest, detailed reviews make for happier customers, I think. ;)

  21. Carol Says:

Well at least they look nice Babylon.Do you find them to be too tight on you thigh? I have a few pairs but only wore the white ones so far. Thanks for the post.

  22. peronel Says:

Ohhh, good. I’m glad it’s not just me who doesn’t like the long cuffable. Too elasticy, too ribbed, and with an ugly transition from foot knit to leg knit down on the ankle. Such a shame that the M43s (which I looooove) are being replaced by the nasty cuffables.
