You made me love you…
I didn’t want to do it, I didn’t want to do it…
Dear cuffables,
It wasn’t supposed to be like this, You were supposed to be more forgiving (to my large thighs), You were supposed to go the distance (to reach the length of my foot), You were supposed to be kinda loose and easy, gently going all the way (up to my …). But no… You came up short in my heel (you heel), You hold on too tight (where you should give me room), And instead of being my perfect one for me, you’ve gone and made yourself all dreamy to all those other smaller sized legs (read as smaller than mine).
You cad!
you tease!
you, you,
you, still lovely anyway sock you.
Way back when we were testing ideas for the Super M’s, we had a particular tester pair that had this incredible stretchy knit top portion. The cuffables were born from the idea of that knit, but unfortunately the manufacturer was not able to re-create the amazing super-forgiving stretch of that original. When I got my pair of the cuffables I was expecting the original give (thinking I’d really have the PERFECT sock for the large legged sock lover.. ME), and for a while my disappointment prevented me from loving what was actually good about this new version.
I was so sad that they weren’t uber super stretchy (even though they still make it pretty high on my thighs 26″). The problem with this (for me) is that the width of my legs pull the sock snugger allowing my skin to show through the pulled knit pattern, and they didn’t just gather and scrunch loosely (puckering a bit). I must admit that I’m a bit jealous of the average and petite sock lovers that will get to wear this sock loosely the way I had hoped to be able to. I was also hoping for feet made of the same knit as the sock (even if there were no formed heels like a tube sock). I wear a lot of open top shoes (like maryjanes) and am not fond of seeing that band somewhere around the ankle where the thick leg knit changes into the thin foot knit.
But…. All that being said, I still fell for them anyway :O)
They really stay up well when cuffed, the colors are rich, they are quite snuggly, and they totally go over my knees. I have a hard time comparing them to the M40’s. For me, the flatter knit of the M40’s (I have not yet tried the M43s) would be ideal for certain outfits and occasions that these would not and vise versa. The cuffables are warm and cozy, long and thick, and work really well for me when I scrunch them down a bit at the ankles to wear them pulled up in length to just over my knee (the scrunched part at the ankles hides the knit difference, and wearing them lower on my leg minimizes the ’skin show through’ part).
I know that our Sock Goddess is constantly working on making sure that everyone gets socks that will fit and fulfill all our sock dreams. I now have drawers of socks that fit me better than any I’d seen in years before I found SD and I am often surprised at how much I end up liking certain pairs that I poopooed at first… These are no exception as I fall for these more each time I put them on.
Thanks Niq for never giving up on finding the fits for all of us. :O)
