DIY sleeves from mesh capris

I really loved Niqkita’s pictures of the Mesh Capri with Ruffle Trim leggings, especially the one where the ruffles show from under shorts. {Which I think is in a journal review}. So I bought me a pair, figuring I could always make a top out of it if I hated it as leggings. Once I looked for something to wear it with I quickly realized I don’t own long shorts, and frankly only wear either very long or very short skirts. The length & style of the leggings looked weird with those length skirts. So, I made the Mesh Capri with Ruffle Trim leggings into a top. But the seat part was rather constricting on my torso, so I ended up chopping off the legs to make *sleeves* and lookit what I got:

TA-DAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! Pretty right? :) Well, I think so. Since my arms are so thin I kept them up with a pair of Miss Dater’s Ladies Adjustable Garters and folded them over a few times. Which works great until I get a sewing machine and finish them up properly. & they can still be pulled up around my knees and worn as a funky leg warmer if I wish.

So, just a crafty idea for you all. I think it would also look neat with another pair of warmers or gloves worn underneath too. Or maybe attach them to short sleeves with chain or suspender clips? Or put some eyelets in the sleeves and make long X stitches to a shirt with ribbon or embrodery floss? I have too many ideas. lol.

That is such a neat idea! I cannot seem to find that post either, but that is largely because I can’t remember how long ago that was and it’s Friday so my head is jumping ahead to this weekend ~;)

ah-HA! I found it Friday, June 03, 2005 here. I couldn’t find it before because I looked a year too early. Have a happy weekend! :)))

Aha! I just didn’t look back far enough…

Ok, that is just unbearably cool. Something else that could be done, possibly, is to just cut out enough of the crotch and pull it on over your head like a shirt that stops just under the bust. The waistband would stop at about the braband. Tribal belly dancers do this with fishnets a lot and then wear a bra over it. That would still give you the ‘cool sleeve’ look. That looks really good Rebeckah.

They look really cute on you! However, I dont know if I, personally, would spend $10 on sleeves.

yea, I regularly spend $10-20 on leg/arm warmers. I really love the style of sleeve & all the tops I was finding that kind of sleeve on {like at Lip Service and such} were like $60 tops. And they never fit my chest… so this way I got the sleeves without the dissapointment of ill fitting toppage. I tried to wear this as a top like how Nyssa described, but the waistband was too tight for me.
