Miss Dater’s versus Sock-Dream’s garters
I thought I’d do a review of garters and what better way to compare garters than with your most uncooperative pair of stockings? ;) I came up with the idea & shot it about a month ago, but there weren’t any garters to sell at that time. So my review waited, and now that there’s oodles of garters, these E.G. Smith heather over the knee stockings are all sold out. lol. Oh well. :) I’ll still share a bit about the EG’s…. They’re soft and flannel like, and have gargantuan stretch. They also don’t stay up for anything. Completely uncooperative. So they NEED garters.
On the left leg is Miss Dater’s Ladies Adjustable Garters and on the right leg is Sock-Dream’s garters with brass buttons that I bought last year. The Dater’s garters are of a thinner, more stretchy elastic and the middle of the clip part pops out like a front close bra clasp. As you can tell from the picture I have more thigh bulge happening with the Dater’s. This is because they were not holding up my stockings very well. I kept tightening them and they kept slipping, and eventually they were too tight, creating bulge and hurting my legs. And they still kept slipping, so I was not only pulling up the stockings, but the garters as well. :( Also, I don’t think our sock friends with sturdier legs will be able to wear these up on their thighs, but OTK or knee high height always looks cute, and you’ll want to show off the darling little retro clip anyway.
The Sock-Dream’s garters where completely different. The elastic is thick and sturdy enough that it doesn’t cut into my delicate Lady flesh. :) The garter stayed put and also held up my disgruntled stockings. The buttons are a bit of an effort to get thru the holes at first, especially if you have long fingernails. But with the new lowered prices on garters, I’ll be getting pairs for thigh high height as well as over the knee heights and won’t have to mess with doing the buttons but just the once.
The Miss Dater’s Ladies Adjustable Garters are good looking and fun for stockings that have some of their own stay up power, but if you’re wearing something that needs serious garter help, the Sock-Dreams garters were the clear winner for keeping up stockings that love to fall down.

Ooooo Ugh i need to get my hands on the garters they look niftty. I supose what would look kind of kewl if is someone wore your nurse garters with a few of the other brand(thinner ones that look like they can cause bloodclots LOL) around it .*wigles fingers*

aw thanks EG. The crew at socks_fun on live journal were teasing me that my poses are always the same, so I’ve been trying to do something different. It’s hard ya know, legs only bend one way hahahahaha

Great post, and cute pics!!! It should be mentioned that the Sock-Dreams buttoned garters are not the same as the ones with snaps, lest anyone get confused. :)

We hope to have a wishlist some day, it’s covered on the FAQs page. mywishlist.com has been recommended by several of our fav customers as a decent alternitive in the meantime…

Great post, MissRebeckah. I just ordered a couple of pairs of the Sock Dreams garters, though I do really love my Daters too. They’re sooo cute, I just find that I tend to wear them with socks that stay up on their own, as you mentioned. I’m glad to find that the Sock Dreams ones will help my EG Smith OTKs stay up!

Those EG over-the-knee stockings look SO comfy and I love the solid knit (never was a fan of ribs)! Rebeckah, where did you get them and were they ever available in White? Anything that gives the term “gargantuan stretch” is on my list!!! ^_^
Does anyone know if they still exist anywhere?

they just came back in stock, go into the over the knee area, they are about 7 down from the top…
