Fun with ribbons

An excellent idea submitted by a Portland sock lover…

I have loved the lace-up thigh highs since I got them last summer,
but I was always somewhat bothered by their laces. They’re more like bootlaces, and not quite right for the sexy look of the lace-up socks. So, I got some lovely pink ribbon and decided to try that instead.

I’m quite pleased with the results. If anyone else wants to try, I suggest a sturdy, satiny ribbon, and one needs at least two yards per sock. Two yards was barely enough for me, I should have gone with two and a half for nice big bows, but it works for now. Next time I’ll get more and try some other colors as well! (I’m a Portlander as well, and if you’re curious, I got my ribbon at Presents of Mind on Hawthorne.)

Okay.. back from my living room rug… I don’t think I did it, though I did have some twister game flashbacks in the process :O)

I couldn’t do it either, I think my arm is too far away from my lower leg lol

Jamie-Lynn, you sound like me! I love swapping things to match outfits :D I do it mostly with earrings though; I wear two different ones!!

I tried to do the bendy position as well. I don’t think i came close :p

ok, damnit, now i had to try it, too. i did it, no prob, but i’d have to be propped up on something to be able to use my left hand to click the shutter button! :)

Oh, this IS very nice!! Good thinking; those lace-ups are sooo pretty now!!! :)

  9. shelleopard Says:

That’s awesome! If it were me I’d get all different colors so I could swap them out to match my outfits. But I don’t have these. I do that with my plain black Converse though.

goooooorgeous…i love your pics!!! really pleasing to my eyes….a cupid comes to mind….sweet…your hand pose and all- and of course, kitty in the back ground!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. EG Says:

wow.. I just noticed.. you must be really bendy! (read as flexible). at first I thought that was your left arm… but when I realized it was your right arm, and that you are facing away from the camera (as we see the back of your legs), but we see the inside of your right arm. Hmmm… It’s so lovely and so confusing to me. I must go and try to contort myself on the living room rug a bit to see if it is only visally difficult. Disregard my rambles… I love it all, and need to get those pink satin ribbons!! :O) Oh and yes.. i also LOVE that hand pose… like a cherub or an angel… really really sweet!

That’s so cool! It does look so much better.

  15. Rebeckah Says:

yes! That’s wonderfull. The laces are alot like bootlaces and they can be a bit bulky to sit on too. This is such a great idea and it looks good too!

  16. EG Says:

PRETTY!!!! really nice idea! I see black lace hanging over those stockings… do I detect another vintage slip lover????

  17. Loriana Says:

Wow!! That really is a great improvement. I might have to try that with mine. Hmmm, and maybe some black ribbon with my velvet lace-ups? :)

  18. Babylon Says:

oh that’s such a good idea, I wish I knew where to get nice ribbons around here, the stuff at the fabric store is such poor quality and never stays tied in bows

  19. Niq Says:

I think they would, you just might need longer ribbons ~:)

I keep looking at these socks, especially now when this idea makes them look soooooo cute! I’m just not sure if they’d fit around my 24″ thighs.
