Back on my toes!

After being sick the past couple weeks and in & out of the hospital it’s so nice to be better! I was going through sock withdrawls. My biggest complaint in the hospital was that they give you these SUPER scratchy stiff little bootie socks with uncomfortable treads on the bottoms. I yelled multiple times, “You call THESE socks!?” And while people tried to assure me the socks were the least of my worries, I couldn’t help it. I’ve been spoiled by my sock family here. I’m used to the finer things in life, like the shag slipper socks

They’ve been keeping my feet nice and toasty while I’m laying in bed. So nice and soft! They streched comfortably over my feet though tend to slip a bit when I’m walking across the hardwood floors in my house. They collected the dust and fuzz on the hardwood floors so I don’t even have to sweep now! My cats are also big fans of them and crawl into bed with me to attack the fuzzy things on my feet.

These are definately a must-have :)

Sneak peak…

Here are two new items that I’m working on when I can…
(among many others)
Sparkley leg warmers ~ just added!
plain cotton over the knees by Hot Sox,
just like their flat knit knee highs
they really stay up!
This morning I added some neat stripey cashmere/wool/angora blend knee highs!

Up ahead…

It wasn’t the first time,
but last week someone wrote raving about how much they loved our
military boot socks
…and can we get them in colors???
Good question!
we’ve had too much on our minds for too long to have asked before
but it was time so I did…
the answer is yes!
we got the samples this week and loved them…
I’m wearing a seafoam pair tonight…
We can get pretty much all the colors the rest of the Dream styles come in,
but may limit it to a few to start…
what should we get first?

I lust after these…

I’ve wanted this pair since the day I took the pictures,
but I already have sooo many socks…
I love their zig-zagging pattern and the vibrant colors.
I love their solid matching toes heels & cuffs and their little velvet roses…

I’m not so wild about the other colors they come in,
that’s dark brown with the rose above, it’s okay, they also come in berry & teal, but variation is one of the grand things in life, some may not find these appealing and may prefer the others.
They fit pretty nicely too, they’ll stay up and are comfy. They’d probably fit up to a women’s 10, on the small side, maybe a 7 depending on how picky you are about where the heel sits on your ankle ~;)
One size fits most, but it may not fit you…
I know at least a few of you have tried these, what did you think of them?

O Marled, Marled, wherefore art thou Super Marled?

Our thickest yummiest socks are made with the marled yarn which consists of two shades spun together. Our supplies have been low for what seems like ages now and I’m eager to get them restocked. for the past couple of months the entire Dream Stocking section has been in a bit of limbo on top of being madly popular during our busiest season. Now that we have Alicia working fulltime with us she is taking on the task of organizing what we have and making sure everything is properly listed while I work with the supplier to get what we don’t in large enough amounts to cover us for more than a matter of days. It’s going to take us at least a few weeks to get it all squared away, but every day we get closer and every week we get hundreds more socks in for our efforts.
The problem with the marled is that the yarn supplies are getting lower, not enough to keep us in stock of the Super Marled for awhile, but the O Marled should be okay. Soon there should be a fresh batch of yarn and a whole new line of Marled to order (I want them in every length!). Til then, patience is a virtue and you’d do well to show us some ~;)
One more little tidbit, the current batch of gold O Marled are longer than usual, they came most of the way up my thighs!

ANKH ANKH!

Everyone say a nice quiet thank you to the Postal Truck Gnomes for relinquishing the Ankh Garters (quietly, I said, or you’ll hurt their wee ears!). :) So now I can tell you how excited I am to be able to offer these! We sold through the first batch before any of us could even post about them.

For a girl who was called Death (from Neil Gaiman’s Sandman) for several years, whose first tattoo was an ankh, and who, when asked at the age of five what she wanted to be when she grew up, would respond, “an archeologist,” not making ankh garters was hardly an option. ;) I only waited this long to make them as I had trouble finding the proper little ankhs to so do. These little cast-metal silver-toned ankhs are glued onto the black elastic with jewelry-quality glue and are flat to the elastic, so you can even wear these under jeans if you need to.

There are five ankhs per garter, and two snaps (as usual) to adjust to two different widths/heights on your thigh, from over-the-knee at about 15-17″ to above the knee at about 19-22″. These garters are fairly low-key and, in my own humble opinion, a whole lot of nifty. :) For a host of reasons why one might want to adorn oneself with this ancient symbol, click here.

Substitute Stripeys

As some of you may recall, I have the remarkable ability to post something right as it goes out of stock. Hence the substitute stripeys: I post these today as the other two items I had to post are both out of stock, not because Niqkita doesn’t stock things properly (she DOES), but because of my weird little tendency. :)

The tones of the black and blue Super Stripes seduced me into trying them (I don’t normally wear blue very often), and I’m glad, ‘cuz they’re so lovely! As always, the fit is great: they reach thigh high on me and stretch easily around my 22″ thighs. They do bag a bit around the toes, ankles and knees, but I find it a small price to pay for Thigh-High Stripes in such hard-to-find color combos.
You may want to invest in some Sock Garters if you want them to stay thigh-high, however, as they will slouch easily above your knees on their own. I chose the Ankh Garters, a bit of which you can see in the pic…I’ll be saying more about them soon. See, the little gnomes that live in postal trucks must have thought that the Ankh Garters looked extra specially interesting in their box (postal gnomes have adapted to their habitat by developing x-ray vision), because they’ve kept them longer than anticipated and are therefore, sadly, delaying their delivery. :(

On the brighter side, another thing peeking into a bit of that photo is the cute face of my other kitty john. :) Happy Monday Toes, everyone!

Greenest Envy

I have desired a pair of green O Chevrons for the longest time but I didn’t tell a soul. Then out of the blue a parcel arrived from Texas – my friend Cait had not only hand-crocheted me a beautiful cream beanie and scarf to keep me warm for my first white Christmas, but she had also somehow guessed my secret wish and packed this pair of Hunter Green O Chevrons!

porcupine princess

They keep me so warm, even out in the snow under a skirt! They have never snagged, not even under jeans, and I’ve thrown them in the wash and accidentally tumble dried them without any stretching or shrinkage. They stay up pretty well without garters but will require periodic pulling on skinny legs. I’m so in love with my O Chevrons that I recently bought a more daring pair of lime green O Chevrons with black details, and a pair of charcoal O Chevrons with white details.
Mmmmm I can’t WAIT to wear them!

Oh my gosh, and on my quest to find the link to my black spikey sock garters, I’ve just noticed there are now pink ones available!!!
When did this happen and why didn’t the world stop?

M40 vs. M43

a battle to the death… ok maybe not… ;) …just a comparison for those who want to know…

the M40s are always on this side < -----> the M43s are on this one. :)

the appearance: texture

the M40 yarn is more nubbly in texture, a slight bit thicker and the sock has a more open weave than the new M43s. the M43s’ knit is smoother and ‘flatter’ looking and the yarn is a bit finer and quite smooth, these would probably give a bit less indentation on the bottom of the feet for those who find that uncomfortable. The M43s do pill a little in high wear areas of the sock (the sides of the feet and the back of the heel, mostly from my flannel sheet lol) but I don’t think quite as much as the M40s.

the heel:

smaller foot M40s and M43s. I usually wear size 8-9 shoes.

the appearance: bagginess

M40s are baggy and wrinkle at the knees and ankles and tend to slowly slink off of my feet when I’m not wearing shoes, M43s snap right back smooth against the skin and they don’t slip off the end of my toes. yay!

They both go up to the top of the thigh on me the M43 was a little longer so I had to fold it a teeny bit. My leg length from the bottom of my foot to my crotch is a little more than 33 inches and the widest part of my thigh measures 21.5 inches for those who might like to know. ;) ;P

Lotus Toes

Tuesday afternoon Lola was feeling a bit bored at work and managed to find a pair of socks that had recently been photographed. She carefully took its little Biella label off and sat quietly admiring them. She loves furry stuff, furry little dogs, furry toys, furry blankets, furry kitties, furry fascinates her to no end. Since she’d molested the socks we could hardly put them away to be sold, but she didn’t do them a bit of damage and was clearly fond of them so I put them on her. She looks surprisingly graceful walking around in them, they cause her to step daintily, almost as if she’s dancing. She likes sitting around & napping in them and doesn’t fuss with them a bit which amazes me. Then again, she loves to be covered with a blanket ~ will gently scratch at one once or twice requesting it to be lifted for her to snuggle under & she likes wearing properly fitting sweaters (not easy to find and they rarely last long before I need to mend a seam) so I guess it shouldn’t be surprising that she likes to wear socks & keep her little puppy tootsies cozy.

Now I wonder what other little socks I can get her to wear…
