Rainbows and Hairspray

I’ve wanted these Rainbow Thigh Highs since they first came out. But for some reason I feared they just wouldn’t fit me, and I waited so very long and tried so many others before I finally got my pair.

Sunday night My friend Lisa called and offered me an extra ticket to the Broadway Show Hairspray. There was only an hour to get showered and get to the theater if I did want to go. So I threw myself together and grabbed my new Rainbow Thigh High’s (I was so excited about this fun last minute adventure, and I thought the brilliant rainbows would be really fitting to the occasion).

Hairspray is definitely the happy place show for those of us who are not so petite, and now that I’ve tried them I can say that the Rainbow’s are definitely the happy socks for those of us with not so petite feet :O) I was so surprised as they slid on my feet with ease (and the heels stayed on my heels leaving my arches exactly where the arches should be.. with just enough length to give my toes the wiggle room they require), they even pulled up my curvy calves and over my knee quite comfortably. I personally wouldn’t consider these to be thigh high, just a little bit over the knee actually. They were not tight in the least but I must mention that the horizontal stretch on the calves made the colors slightly less brilliant on the wider areas.

Even though they did technically go over my knees, they just wouldn’t stay put there (I have a feeling that if they were just a tad longer or my legs a tad thinner that might be different). They kept falling just below my knees the whole night (I used the opportunity to keep tugging at them and showing them off to the theater goers across the isle from me). I wish I had found the time to grab my gorgeous red pom pom garters in my rush to get ready, I’m sure they would have stayed over my knees much better with that little extra help. Actually, I’d like to mention too, that the way they were falling under my knees was pretty interesting.. reminded me of “rolled stockings” they didn’t just slip down.. they rolled down in this cute little way.

I did notice some pilling on the bottoms of the feet after just that one wear … but I figure I can always use a clothes shaver if that happens too much.

I really am thrilled with the fit of the feet on these, and I just adore the flat thin knit. These are the type of sock that I crave to find in a length that would truly go all the way up my thighs. I’d love to find this gloriously fitting foot in some solid colors too . I’m sure someday our sock goddess will find all that for us , :O) and until that day I’m gonna ride these rainbows with very happy wiggling well fitted toes! (and yes.. there is a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow… tee hee) :o)

Good news! The rainbow thigh highs just got here!!! In fact, so far, everything I ordered from Leg Avenue came in, they must’ve just received a huge shipment themselves. I may not get it all checked in before I have to leave today, but will get right back at it in the morning…

and here i am with nary a vintage slip! (although i do have the nightgown my mommy wore at the hospital when i was born.) i prefer a-lines, anyway…with my large hips, anything shorter than 22″ long had better not be straight! :)

I’ve collected the things for years (and vintage nightgowns too)… I’m almost embarassed to say that I probably have about four times as many vintage slips as I do socks. However, I don’t think that will stay that way for too long as the sockies have been beginning to catch up. Can I just mention again how thrilled I am about the feet fitting so well in the Rainbows :O) My toes are so happy! Okay.. I’m really going to bed now.

I believe I have a pair of foot traffic ones they are marvelous. Best socks ever.

  12. shelleopard Says:

yes, niq, i do believe you’re right about mine being the foot traffics, AND about their being basically the same sock. mine don’t have the foot traffic name on them, but i know my preferences and would have bought that brand over leg avenue’s. mine fit like a dream, too, and were OTK and soooo soft and comfy. :)

  13. Niq@work Says:

Shelleopard’s pair is Foot Traffic (I think) and I do believe they are the same sock, but the FT version has their logo on the feet and claims to be an OTK rather than the LA claim of being a thigh high…

Sadly, Leg Avenue has been out of those for awhile now. I was finaly able to order them this week, but am not sure they are actually in stock because they just changed their ordering system online and now I cannot tell if stuff is actualy available like I could before. But we still have plenty of the Foot Traffic version ~:)

  15. EG Says:

  16. EG Says:

I really hesitated on these because I am usually a black/deep reds type person….but these things are the BEST!!!! We at Sock Dreams must have 90% of all the vintage slips…..geez, I am crazy for them….layer them, love them, can’t get enough! How was the play???

  18. shelleopard Says:

Okay.. just checked. These are the Leg Avenue version. Wow that is wild though, even the colors are in the exact same order. How are the Foot Traffic ones in comparison to these?
