Denial of Service Attack

One of the first things I did this morning when I got up was log in to check the journal only to find that the site wouldn’t load. I quickly logged onto our server to find out what was going on and saw the following message on our hosts site:
12-22-2005 07:04:56
We are currently experiencing a major DOS attack to our backbone network. All our sys admins are aware of the issue and are working on filters to stop the attack. This has been going on since approximately 5:30am (PST), and we hope to have the issue resolved very soon. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

This attack was not aimed at us, but at our host and affected many sites besides this one. What a rotten thing to do to everyone right before the big holidays! hopefully it won’t happen again anytime soon and I can assure you that we are here working to get each and every order out as quickly as we can.
I saw another depressing thing on the news right after I read the note above. People driving through neighborhoods looking for packages on porches to steal. I cannot stress enough the importance of mail security, we don’t require signatures unless requested to (though we did have a little mishap in stamping last week that caused several people to unexpectedly have to sign for their packages). We hear all too often from people who have not received their orders despite their postal carrier scanning it on delivery. Mail security is everyone’s responsibility, we do what we can from our end, but we cannot possibly be there to guard your socks til you open your door. Even if you live in a good neighborhood there are thieves somewhere nearby that could easily drive right up to your house and take what is not rightfully theirs.
Bah Humbug to those who do such misdeeds to others!

How heartbraking it would be to have all those socks so close only to be cruelly snatched away by people who couldn’t possibly appreciate them! :(

I guess it’s good that where I live old neighbourhoods get their same door delivery but the new ones get their mail at the superbox at the end of the street, once in a while I get something left at the door, but not often, and your packages I have to go to the post office to pay the tax so I have to sign anyway lol wow that was a big run on sentence! :D

I thought I was the only one who sits on the couch each day peeking out the window waiting for the mailman! Glad to hear I’m not alone!

i’m a peeker too! i know the sound of the mail-van so well, i always run to the window to confirm and then trot down the street to the superbox to get my socks. it’s funny that the mailman knows me so well by now… nowadays, he’ll just toss the package to me with a grin.

i had a sock package stolen, BUT: it led to my actually talking to niqkita, and thereby making garters and being a sock-grrrl here! :)

LUCKILY never had any packages stolen off my porch….however, I have had my garbage cart stolen…..and my snow shovel (which they took and replaced with a teeny tiny kids shovel) and some one steals my windsheild wiper (only the passenger side- I guess so i still can clear off my window??)…….geeeeeeeeez!!!!!!!!!!!!!
