When we LOVE too much…
Sounds like a cheesy self help book huh?
For some silly reasoning (must have been instilled when I was a child… Perhaps I could blame my mother (tee hee) ;o) I tend to try not to wear what I think are my “best” things. The reasoning thought being that I don’t want to wear out the good stuff, but save it for “special” instead. That always backfires on me. While I have several really great unworn pairs of socks (shoes, dresses, even panties) saved for some magical occasion in the future, my true favorites eventually end up being the things I wore and wore and wore again for “not so special”. Then suddenly… There are holes, wear, rips, tugs, stains and all the signs that lots of life happened there. I guess they are now special too. :O)
It was love at first sight with these double greens. The colors just blew me away (even now after many many washings) they are so very vibrant. These two greens together have a truly happy effect on me. The colors in real life are as glorious as the colors in a Mary Faery photograph. But these socks did not go to the ’save for special’ area… They went right to the front of a sock drawer in the ‘wear any time’ area. Why? Because on my legs they aren’t long enough to truly get over my knees, and the heels on the feet make me feel like one of Cinderella’s ugly stepsisters trying to fit giant feet into that tiny glass slipper. A sock has to be REALLY special for me to feel those things about it, and still fall head over ill fitting heels in love with them. And fall I did… I wear them all the time, sometimes slouched, sometimes knee high, sometimes as layers with other socks, sometimes in my hair as a headband, sometimes they even become a vel toy. I don’t think I’ve done a load of laundry in the past four months that they were not in. I wear them that much. I love them that much. I am glad they never made it to “special”.. I never would have found out how much I really enjoy them.
When the DreaM stockings eventually come in bigger feet I am going to have to make sure I don’t file them away under special. These need to be worn, these need to be loved… loved to the point of holes even.
Now where is my green thread :O)

Hay EG I have plenty of socks like these that I end up washing with every wash also. And the funny thing is I do so many of the same things you do.I get some socks that are so nice I want to wear them with an outfit right away but at the same time I want to save them to wear on a special occasion. Most of the time with a new outfit or on a special day.I think I do it to help remember.Like oh remember when we went to……and I wore these. To me it dosn’t matter how worn they get. Actually I think they get more borken in with each wearing and wash. But at the same time I love the feel of new socks on my feet.I sometimes try to order another pair so when I fianaly retire the older ones for house dutys only.I think your favorite socks always cheer you up…..my problem is I have so many favorits……hmmmmm it’s a good problem.

i got that exact pair of green knees in an order i recieved last week, and i couldn’t agree with you more. the two shades of green complement each other perfectly, they’re incredibly comfortable, and they go with everything! they are quite possibly the perfect sock! thank you sock dreams! :)

Great post! I too must join you in the adoration of green knees, although the Sherbert Stripes are a very, VERY close second! :) Mel is always so adorable!

haha Vel looks so happy. EG I love your posts too! :) I keep things for special too, so when I can I buy 2 of my favs so one can be kept special. Ironically, when I do that I wear the other one so much that I get burned out on it and eventually end up donating the second item unworn. Altho I haven’t done that with socks… I’d turn them into leg/arm warmers first.

i just keep buying more longsocks, since they’re my fave….that way, hopefully, i’ll have enough that it’ll take them all a long time to wear out. :) the only ones that i really save for special are the angora otks and some of the hosiery, which will wear out quickly if i don’t. :S

I have a bunch of long socks also.Living in New England I get to waer most of them almost year round (well 9 mounths).I think one of the great things about long socks is you can wear them a few ways, fold them, scrunch them down, knee high, thigh high or just over the knee.A have a few pairs of the diamond Lace Knit OTK socks that I have only worn a few times…Don’t want to wear these out.So I keep them with the special ones. But most of them I just grab anytime….I know Sock Dreams will always have more that I can replace them with and like just as much 8-) yahhhhh.

I think that’s why I bought 3 pairs of seafoam and natural and 3 pairs of pink and natural super stripes so I have lots of pairs, even when some are dirty lol
