A tall grrl review in black and blue!

I got a pair of the new Checkerboard Pantyhose for testing!

The label says, “One size fits most WT 90-160 lbs,” but we always want to make certain if we can. :) Well, here’s the long and not-so-skinny: like pretty much any article of clothing, the weight is less a deciding factor than the measurements. The black and blue pair that I tried had bold, beautiful color and stayed in mostly checkerboard pattern from toes to thighs. I could get them up to my waist, and it’s a good thing, b/c anywhere below that and they would’ve created that icky dent; I would recommend no larger than a 30″ waist for these. They were just snug enough to make me want a plus-sized version instead. I wouldn’t recommend them for anyone with longer than a 32″ inseam, either, as they fell short of covering my entire leg with the pattern.

For reference, my measurements are: 29″ waist, 40″ hips & 34″ inseam, which puts me in the size range of 10-15, L-XL. I don’t want to completely bash on these; as I said before, the color was brilliant and the material is thick (for nylon) and comfy, a great fall-to-spring weight, even summer if you live in cooler climes. My overall recommendation? One size fits most 5′8″-, 90-140 lbs, but keep your measurements in mind. We’re all shaped differently. :)

you guys need to im! ;) j/k, lots of comments are great! :) the socks of the day is the old name for the sock journal. yeah, the diy clothing thing makes total sense here since we all obviously love to express ourselves in our clothing and want unique, wonderful things that fit well. well, sometimes you’ve just gotta make ‘em yourself. :)

There is a product called “no fray”… it will treat run-able cut fabric so that it won’t fray. I would advise putting the tights you want to alter in the freezer over-night first (I know it’s weird, but for some bizaree reason it helps prevent the runs)… cut them, treat with no-fray… roll the no-fray part under twice, sew a simple seam. And Voila… Thigh highs from tights (these would need garters). If you are more advanced you can sew a loop of elastic into the rolled over part and they stay up. I’ve done this before, even without the no fray. :O) Sometimes some of the tights here are just so great, that you have to have them as Thigh Highs too ;o)

okie dokie Jamie-Lynn- I think I am gonna try out the cutting thingy on my huge pile of old, run, worn out stockings that are in my basket for use to hold my plants, baby tress etc….then after i experiment a bit i will try it on those that i bought (from a different site- which every time i think on it i think “well, that’s what you get for going somewhere else…”)…blah :(….i know not of livejournal and it turns out blog etc….although as of this week actually i have kind of “discovered” some such things or the world of…in search for this “sock of the day” thing (which i think i came across some but they are older but i am very much enjoying them) & diy clothing….odd how things come into a circle…..ok sorry about usurping the post….but very interesting it seems these pieces of ppls lives….take care all…ty!

I think most tights should be ok to cut and then fold and hem without running as long as you do the cutting when they’re not being worn. It’s only usually when they’re stretched that they run. I know when I made a sock kitty out of a pair of run thigh highs cutting and sewing went just fine. Even if you don’t sew them they should be ok just held up with sock garters. I’d love to see how it works out. Do you have a livejournal? I post a lot in a community called socksarefun and think you’d fit in great. I know some other people from here post there as well.

  7. Raubynn Says:

and one more thing Jamie-Lynn and then i won’t bug anymore…I think I would like to try to salvage those tights that are so- tight….you said to alter them and use with garters…how? won’t they run?? thanks

  8. Niqkita Says:

The checkers are stitched together, so they would only run to the bottom of their own square ~:)

  9. Jamie-Lynn Says:

I was just looking at the new stuff and the Skater Socks are cute! You should talk to the people from Skater Socks I think they do stuff in bulk enough that you could sell some of there’s too. They’re made in the USA too!

  10. Niqkita Says:

Actually, we are in touch with them ~:) our socks are not from them, hence the different name, we already had ours in the making when we got into contact with them, we’re currently awaiting samples. Also, we have socks from Sourpuss nearly ready to add. I’ll be posting about it in a bit ~:)

I agree Jamie-Lynn….ADORE the ink-lined….I love them even more than the O-Chevrons….I really really really love them….the fit is purrrrrrfect…..they fit my size 10s perfectly and go up over my knees and don’t fall and fit snuggly not squeezy…..really love them….the whites are darling….complete schoolgirl…..the pinks are so sweet…..love the red….and now i want the milk & cookies….I feel so bad i keep ordering one thing here one thing there….for real the ink-lined are the greatest…and cheaper than the o-chevrons too!!! (i really love those thigh hi rainbows- more like a sock- they have a great perfect fit too and nice and snuggly against your skin- fit my size 10s too)…sorry this post is so off the topic…..

yeah I’ve never been much for tights, they always pull themselves down on me so the crotch is 2 inches lower than my body and yanking at them all the time isn’t very attractive lol, but I do remember having two pairs I really liked as a little kid, one was white lace with a backseam, and the other was white sheer pantyhose with pink hearts woven into them just like the heart thigh-hi’s you sell, which I had to buy when I made my first order just to relive the pretty heart goodness… and I can totally relate to Niq’s snowsuit issue. It always took so long for me to get my entire snowsuit on that the teachers made fun of me!!

We lived in some very cold parts of Canada when I was a wee one. I remember having to get all bundled up for school, unbundling wet icky gear at school, then having to bundle back up at recess and the end of the day without my mommie to help, with those awful tights always at the bottom of it all, right against my skin, itching and making me sweat. It seemed like whenever my mom would get me all bundled up to go out and play I would have to pee as soon as she zipped the last zipper or snapped the last snap. In my small mind I resented tights as the main source of all my small miseries ~;)

  14. shelleopard Says:

aww, thanks for the love, raubynn! ‘kita’s own reviews were so honest that i quickly became addicted to reading the “socks of the day” before i became a sock grrl. i’m glad i can help with the same sort of helpful fun. :) and yes, j-l, i was thinking of cutting these off at the thigh and wearing them with garters instead. :) i hated tights as a kid, too….i lived in a colder area and would have to dress up for church and put on wool tights. ever seen curly sue? well, that was me to a T. squirming on the floor, upset b/c they itched. :) thankfully, tights have come a long way since then, even if my hairstyle hasn’t. ;)

  15. Niqkita Says:

I think I actually had sworn early on that we would not carry tights, I really hated them growing up and had barely touched tights or pantyhose as an adult. But there were neverending requests so I gave in and started ordering them. Some are better than I expected, some are not. Some have insane sizing charts and none account for individual variances. Even these were a request as I wasn’t wild about checkers. But they did fit me well and do look great on Shelleopard’s long legs ~:)

  16. Raubynn Says:

This is why i love this place so much!!! Tights are one of my scariest leg purchases because they are so ill fitting most of the time and the measurements on their sizing charts seem never to be correct (or at least in comparison to my body). I bought a beautiful pair of tights from another site (lots of swirly colors…) and the dang things would barely make it on me….good money for nothing….and i am not that odd shaped i don’t think…anyway….thank you thank you thank you for letting me feel free and safe in ordering with help from everyones very real reviews!!!!!
