A Saturday quickie...

(get your mind out of the gutter, and no, I'm not taking my shoes off)
I'm going to go help out at the bookstore this evening wearing black & green
cotton stripes that actually do stay up without the help of
sock garters & just generally make me happy 'cuz they're green.
Today I have a question for all of you, especially those of you who actually buy & wear our socks....
I'm getting ready to commit to my first custom order with the people who make our
sweater socks, I will have to get 20 dozen (yes, 20, all the same), this is why I haven't ordered yet, but the time is now...
my question is, how long? I can't really get them wider, 21-22 inches is the current max, I feel your pain on this & will eventualy solve the problem, in the meantime let's work with what we can....
would you prefer 40 inches (heel to cuff) or 50?
should we compromise & go with 45?
preferences on knit stitchs are welcome too, though for this first huge batch I think we'll go with something simple, much like the current sweater sock style. Either email me or leave a comment here. I've already asked a few of you & am very grateful for all the input I've received so far....
Happy toes & happy weekend!

by screwing around with the sharpness, contrast & flash settings on my digicam I was able to get these socks to look alot more like they really look without having to adjust them in paintshop. Or maybe it was the light grey background. Cute as these socks are they don't stay above my knees without help for anything, thankfully,
elastic sock garters have saved me from cold bare knees yet again!
Another sample arrived today, just one though, not a pair, so I can't really sample them,
but here they, er, it is...

Based on a request I sent to Ozone Designs, they have come up with this Angora blend thigh high. 30 soft inches from the heel to the cuff. It's not a very wide or stretchy cuff though, so while it may actually stay up on it's own (actually this hasn't been proven yet) they may not fit people with more ample thighs than I (which is quite possibly most of you because I'm a tad scrawny by nature, trust me, I don't diet or excercise). I'm awaiting a response to find out how many I'd need to order to get them, hopefully not too terribly many, but if we do get them I think they will be an exclusive til next year because they're getting them just for us!!! I should know more next week.

Same lovely socks I sampled on
July 10...
dyed lavender & allowed to fall below my knees
(where they look super cute & hang looser than the
long socks &
thick & baggy long socks.)
I was able to order them today, all the same colors as the
sweater socks,
I also ordered more of the light blue & pink sweater socks.
...and, from a different supplier, I was able to custom order yesterday's plaid knee highs in a thigh high!!!
she said they'd take 2-4 weeks...

These are the cute new plaid knee highs.
They are thick nylon, like a trouser sock, with the design on the outside...
I don't know if any real school girl uniform has ever included these
but they sure do make for a nice effect with a skirt!
they'd be great with chunky boots too, any boots really.
I think I'm going to resist the urge to put these on the current knee high page and just add them to the new pages where they will be found under "nylon" "knee high" and possibly "other". So, for now, if you want a pair
click here. They're $7, but that includes shipping if you're in the US, if not it goes by weight which isn't much in this case. I've only seen these on one other site so far and they had a $20 minimum order, then added $7.95 for first class! Oh, did they stay up? yes, they're still up and not too tight either.
New stuff and another nice letter

6 Fabulous new
stripes, eight with the two
toesocks....
I put these on first thing this morning, they come all the way up my thighs and stayed up all day.
The thin stripes I showed here
july 10 are here and tomorrow I'll show off the plaid knee highs.
The stripes page is out of hand, good thing I have the new site to play with, and yes, I'll share it soon too!
Now, for the letter...
I just wanted to tell you that I got my sock order today and I squeeled with delight. The socks are beautiful even with their natural imperfections. The purple color is beautiful. It isn't a bright happy annoying purple; it is a lovely dreary purple like a purple version of the gray san francisco weather. And the socks aren't so thick and wooly that they are too hot to wear during the summer. I look forward to the winter when I can indule in some of the thicker socks you offer. I also really enjoyed the best and worst of in your sock journal. I think it is great to see unsolicited customer comments. I wasn't going to buy any of the nylon striped stockings, but after reading the customer comments I'm not so worried about them fitting over my amazon woman calves.
Still a happy customer
Kxxx
Out of the shadows come pretty colors

17 socks went into three colors Sunday afternoon
lavender, fire red & marigold
each batch had some
plain cotton leg warmers & a pair of
sweater socksmy pretty cotton sample otk's from
July 4 went in with the lavender
and a pair of 36 inch longsocks went into the marigold.
The marigold came out the splotchiest, more like dappled sunlight
The red came out gorgeous, semi splotchey, the elastic did not take the dye at all,
(I think these will look incredible if I dip them in another color, possibly pink.)
The Lavender is the runaway winner (in my lavender loving opinion)...
the elastic in all the socks took on a blue that blends beautifully,
the leg warmers came out especially well, they really have a lavender look & feel to them that I am most pleased with
the sweater socks came out nice too, the july 4th pair came out a little blueish though.
I did 4 pairs of the lavender leg warmers this time, I'm eager to do more now
maybe some blue to, they will be our first official Indigo Shadows products...
(Shhh, that last part's a secret)

I've been doing more test dye batches. Today I did cotton
leg warmers &
sweater socks in fire red, lavender & marigold. They didn't all come out as even as I'd like because I was trying to do too many without enough space... This is why they are test batches & this is how I learn. The marigold batch is still rinsing, the red are nearly dry, the lavenders are lovely!
Yesterday I went to my first machine knitters meeting and met many sweet older knitters who seemed quite happy to welcome me into their circle. This sample I'm displaying is a two color fishermen's rib, it wasn't meant to be a sock, but it could be & I love the two color effect! I won't be able to mass produce socks with one of these machines, it takes about 20 minutes a sock, yes, one sock, and that is one "normal" sock, not extra long or fancy, though I will be able to make them extra long and fancy (once I learn).
I want to thank Alison for featuring Me as her sponsor for the
Velvet Garden Update this week. As usual she has many lovely items for sale for the gothic at heart.
I've also been working on the new version of the site, it's lovely, but it's not ready to show off yet...
