red & black stripe nylon otk
these are so great! fit even my big feet and wide calves perfectly and came over the knee easily.
i cannot wait to wear these with some funky maryjanes. perfect!!!!
i will be back for more of these definitely.
well ... there ya go, that's what i thought (whether you wanted it or not .... sorry if you didn't). and i will anxiously await the arrival of my 50" crazylong black socks. We certainly ended the week on a better note than we started it on! We've even sold several pairs of the criticised styles to people who read the reviews & appreciated the new prices. I can't say I will necessarily drop anymore prices based on feedback, I was already contemplating the value of the
kilt socks &
thin stripes, but feedback is always welcome, requests too, though if you can't find it I may not be able to either.
Tomorrow I'll put on some comfy socks and tell you a little about my week...
bootsocks-
perfect!!!!!
cannot say even one word of criticism on these babies. soft soft soft. love em....couldn't agree more!
Happy Friday!!!
36" black longsocks-
my biggest criticism about these is in the color shade ... although they seem dark at first, when they are up against the jet black of some of my favorite clothes and shoes they appear brownish. i'm not a fan of brown, and don't wear it. i fear that as these get worn they will look more and more brown. against my older black longsocks these new ones already look browned out.. the other criticism is in the stitching on the foot... i know this is supposed to be some sort of helpful fitting device. but it really throws the look when you wear maryjanes or other open top shoes.
but ... the goodstuff about these socks is very good. they sure do fit nice and come well over my knee. they are thick and heavy and seem to stay up well (personally i'd prefer a little less elastic in them ... but these are the closest to my old favorite longsocks that i've seen in years). if you ever get these in without the foot stitching and in a more JET black color i will keep coming back for these (get them with less elastic too and i'd order them regularly).
36" pink longsocks
with the exception of the foot stitching (as mentioned above) i have nothing but love for these. what beautiful socks. not quite as baby powder pink as i'd envisioned but still wonderful and a real pink. and the feel of these is incredible. these are going to be my favorite sleep socks this winter. i love these and hope that you always keep them in stock so that i can come back for more.In a completely unrelated conversation with a friend a few weeks ago she told me that she never wears black because of the inconsistancies from one black item to the next. I've noticed this in the past and that some items do indeed fade to a brownish, redish or blueish. I've had "black" socks from other suppliers arrive so close to brown that I called them dark rather than black. I think it was just one batch of these that wasn't as black as usual & I don't think they'll fade more. But in this case, and with anyone else not happy with the shade we'll take them back for a full refund or trade.
Ah, the pink long socks are indeed a dream to wear!
I put on both my mary janes to see how it affected the look with each strap style, with the three straps it's hardly noticeable, but it definitely doesn't look right with the criss crossed straps. I've made sure there are images clearly showing the detail of the feet on this style on their pages.
Today's compromise: I'm sending her a free pair of the
sweater socks and look forward to her thoughts on them, no foot ribbing, less elastic. And, as many of you probably know, I continue to search for great styles of extra long socks in order to provide the best assortment possible for everyone's preferences!
otk pink stripe
really cute socks. but they look more purple than pink. pink is my fav color, i have many pink things. i ran around my apartment comparing the socks to every shade of pink i could find (trying to see if it was just my eyes playing tricks on me) ... but next to every pink these looked purple. unfortunately although i like purple.. i don't like purple socks. i have lots of cute things i could have worn pink socks with but nothing for this purple shade. i have no use for these even though they are a cute style.Strangely, they still look pink to me
then again, school buses still look orange to me (despite the whole yellow concept having been clearly explained).
I will admit they aren't quite pink compared to other pinks, like the fuzzy pink
legwarmers & my fuzzy pink outfit (found in the kids section at Goodwill)
not to mention my pink hair that is dreaming of being violet again.
These are one of our personal favorites, quite possibly the sexiest pair we sell and, as usual, I got alot of compliments on them, at home & away. My only complaint about them is that although they both stay up well, one stays up just an inch or so higher than the other one.
Today's compromise: change the name on their page to lavender pink.
not the worst...not great either
the striped rose and gray. these look like mistakes. the kind of socks you'd find in an 'irregular bin'. the stitching is very sloppy where each color stripe is. threads of one color end hang over the new color and dangle like a pulled thread (when i first saw this i thought i must have these inside out... i was really surprised to find that they weren't) ... and the stripes are uneven and unclosed. i'd like them more if there weren't so very many messy stitching areas, but i still like them enough to wear anyway. i think the color combos are excellent and these definitely come over my knee comfortably.I'm wearing the
purple rose & black stripes, which are exactly like the ones she ordered except they are purple instead of gray (actually I call them slate because they are a little more blue than plain grey).

The small close up picture actually does show them inside out where the majority of the loose strings are. I kept this particular pair because the were too flawed to sell (see the hole by my right knee?), they were in a sample batch & I hoped the irregularities were why they were sent as samples. The pairs they sent with the next order were better, but admitedly not perfect. I think it's the thin striping that is the problem as the wider stripes are much better (other than the occassional toe seam that runs along the bottoms of the toes instead of the tops). A different supplier warned me that the loose strings on the insides would be a problem when I asked about custom made stripes. The funny thing is that in the latest letter she wrote me she admitted that despite their flaws they have become her favorite pair! I have to say I really like mine, even with the sometimes uneven stripes & loose strings. Oh, I'm also wearing the long
fishnet gloves.Tonights compromise, I've lowered the
thin striped price to $5!!!
Tomorrow: otk pink striped...

This week I'm doing an unusual theme
the good & the badit's inspired by a nicely written email that came in over the weekend.
She was both pleased & disappointed with her sock order
giving both excellent feedback & constructive criticism.
I thought it would be fun to present each here, starting as she did with:
the worst
the kilt socks ... now i know that natural fiber socks will have some flaws, but these are ridiculous. in my humble opinion they look like somebody's old worn socks. the foot part has so much pilling and nobbies that it looks as if these have seen many a shoeless romping and lots of dryer cycles.. especially in the heels. also right around some of the heel seams the stitching is looser and what looks like the beginning of holes or worn down areas is beginning. i'm so disappointed in these socks i cannot begin to tell you. i didn't even want to put them on. To the left is a close up of the fresh ones in the storage drawer, just as they come to us, bound together with no labeling. My guess is that they prewash them, maybe for shrinkage. I'm certain they aren't preworn as they all seem to come with that slightly "weathered" look & I think she got a flawed pair because I haven't come across many holes or weak seams in these. I can honestly say that in the time we've sold these (about a year now I think) we've only had one other pair returned and I sincerely hope that others haven't been this bothered by these & just didn't tell me. Yes, they are less than perfect in some ways, I do agree there, but if you want a simple ribbed sock that will stay above your knees or thickly cuffed at your knees these are perfect for that. I've had the same pair since they arrived last year and they are holding up fine after many shoeless romps & dryer tumbles.
My compromise: lower the price to $8 immediately!
Tomorrow...
not the worst...not great either

Red can be one of the toughest colors to capture & display digitally
(Sometimes I can get the text closer than the image)So this is the successful pair of hand dyed
wool socks.
I am so happy with them that I am reconsidering what I said the other night...
I just need to experiment some more & get some bigger pots.
I'd feared consistancy & colorfastness in my previous thoughts on dyeing socks
now it occures to me that the colors I get from my suppliers are not always consistant
there are the
36" black longsocks that aren't jet black
pink lace anklets that sometimes show up more of a peach
and the
pink otk's that are more of a lavender than pink
(okay, that was my error, they *looked* pink to me).
Not only that, but by using professional dyes (not rit or koolaide) & following recipes
we can attain the same professional results as any other textile artist.
