Orkney Angora Over the Knees
Fully fashioned, 50% angora, 29 inches long and as cozy as can be. We used to offer these a long time ago and the wonderful folks at Orkney Angora are making them again, to our very specific specifications.
Fiber Content: 50% angora, 50% lambswool
We recommend hand washing these in cold or cool water. Roll in a towel to remove excess moisture and reshape before drying flat.
Soft and silky, angora fiber has a fluffy halo and hollow fibers that create a fantastic thermal wool. Its super cozy properties can be beneficial for arthritis and other cold-induced aches and pains. Angora fiber can only be produced by Angora rabbits (Angora goats produce mohair) and grooming their fur is a necessary part of their health care, they can get hairballs just like cats! There are some great facts about angora wool on its page for the 2009 International Year of Natural Fibers.
Sizing Tips: Fits women's US shoe size 8-11.
29 inches long, with 20 inch stretch in the calf and cuff. These socks are fully fashioned and fit more snugly at the ankle.
Since they have no elastic, you may want to use sock garters to keep them up (they do not stay up on their own).
Additional Info: The labels say: "For extended wear, it is recommended to wear a thin outer sock over the angora sock." Does this mean it will help the sock last longer? Yes. The socks are pure natural fiber, so obviously they don't have the wear qualities of nylon socks. If you are hill walking or wearing them hard then we recommend this for extended wear. If you are just loafing around the house or in bed then it shouldn't be necessary. What would qualify as thin outer sock? Could it be wool or cotton or some other material? Any hard wearing man-made fiber socks, the feet off a pair of socks, or the feet off nylon stockings.
Made by a family-run business in one of Orkney's northernmost isles. We are assured the rabbits are shorn safely & live happy, healthy lives free of hardship. Due to the hand dyed factor, color imperfections are possible.
Label: Orkney Angora
Dearest Sock Dreams: Received my package of fabulous socks and tights and just had to give you all a big thank you! LOVE the watermelon stripes, and the cable knit socks are so comfortable. Thanks again for fueling my addiction to your socks!
