There are many sock related words we use here, some you know, some you may not. Below is our growing list of definitions, always a work in progress...

Acrylic:
From Wikipedia, is lightweight, soft, and warm, with a wool-like feel. It dyes very well and has excellent colorfastness. It is resilient, retains its shape, and resists shrinkage and wrinkles. It is quite varied in form and sometimes has an appearance similar to wool or cotton. Acrylic is resistant to moths, oils, and chemicals, and is very resistant to deterioration from sunlight exposure. However, static and pilling can be a problem.

Alpaca:
From Wikipedia, Alpaca fleece is a luxurious fibre, similar to sheep’s wool in some respects, but lighter in weight, silkier to the touch, warmer, not prickly and bears no lanolin, making it nearly hypoallergenic. In recent years, interest in alpaca fiber clothing has surged, perhaps partly because alpaca ranching has a reasonably low impact on the environment.

Gusset:
A triangular insert, as in the seam of a garment, for added strength or expansion. Usually found in the crotch or panty area.

Marled:
a mix of yarns that creates a thicker, slightly bumpy, mottled appearance when knitted.

Merino:
From Wikipedia,
The merino is the most numerous breed of sheep in the world. It is a breed prized for its wool. Super fine merinos are regarded as having the finest and softest wool of any sheep.

Mohair:
From Wikipedia, Mohair is a silk-like fabric made from the hair of the Angora goat. Mohair is durable, light and warm. Mohair is used to make sweaters and other clothing and blankets. It is also popular material to make teddy bears.

Mottled:
spots or blotches of different shades or colors.

Opaque:
freckles & tattoos should not show through opaque fabrics & knits, but panty lines still will .

OTK: Over The Knees.
A popular length that does just what the name implies, but due to differing leg shapes & sizes what goes over my knees may not go over yours, and what goes to my thighs may just go to your knees. We try to include anyt information we have found to help you know how we feel each style will work on different legs.

Plus sized:
this is generally a larger version of the industry standard "one size" and is, unless otherwise stated 1X. If you are a very large girl or man it may not cover you or your friends and for that we are sorry, we try very hard to stock larger sizes whenever possible, but you may want to seek a site or store that specializes in your special range.

Sheer:
see through or nearly see through.

Spandex:
From Wikipedia, Spandex or elastane is a synthetic fiber known for its exceptional elasticity (stretchability). It is stronger and more durable than rubber, its major non-synthetic competitor. Spandex is the preferred name in North America and Australia, while elastane is most often used elsewhere, such as in Europe. It turns out that "spandex" was coined from an anagram of "expands." A well-known trademark for spandex or elastane is INVISTA's brand name Lycra®

Toe cleavage:
when the spaces between your toes peek out of your shoes, considered by many men to be at least as sexy as the highly over rated version on some people's chest.

Feet: are the lowest structure on the human body & contain 26 bones each.

violet socklingsSock: noun 1. a short stocking usually reaching to the calf or just above the ankle. 2. a lightweight shoe worn by ancient Greek & Roman actors. 3. comic writing for the theater; comedy or comic drama. verb 1. to strike or hit hard. 2. sock away, to put into savings or reserve. 3. sock in, to close up, as an airport, or ground (an aircraft): a heavy fog socked in the whole air base. 4. a hard blow.

Origin: The noun foot covering originally meant light shoe, and went back ultimately to Greek sukkhos, a word possibly borrowed from an Asiatic language. Latin took this over as soccus, which was then borrowed into prehistoric Germanic as sok. And this in turn evolved into German socke, Dutch zok, Swedish socka, Danish sok, and English sock.
